No. It's a group of men shouting threateningly at another group of men. I don't find it appealing when that happens in Redhill town centre and it's no better before the violence of a rugby match.
(I should point out I despise rugby having been forced to play it for years at school and regularly getting the shit kicked out of me, but hey that's sport so it's just fine.) |

It's just their version of Morris Dancing but with more shouting and angry faces so get your bells on and bang some sticks together, it will put them right off their game. |

Yeah, I didn't like that. White people are not allowed get away with appropriating other peoples cultures so why did he get away with it? |

Yup. My mum got the NZ Navy 7's team to do it for me.
Sounds bizarre, but true, they weren't going to do it at Dubai 7's, but she had a word.
I'd been playing for the Qatar expats Mens 7s team aged 14. Someone spotted I was underage and demanded I be kicked of the team at the Final of Local Gulf Team Tournament.
Devastated wasnt the word.
The NZ Navy gave me a special mention just before they did the Haka they weren't going to do.
It always gives me a shot of adrenaline.
I read someone mentioning Jonah Lomu's funeral, which I agree was very upsetting. For me it pales into insignificance (no offence Jonah) when compared to NZ Infantry sending off two of their Brothers who'd died in Afghanistan. A whole squadron of emotional men performing the Haka was enough to bring tears to my eyes.
RIP dudes. |

"I don't really see the point of it. You're not allowed respond to it anyway.
I really dont know how it intimidates people. "
This ^^^ - really fucking annoys me. Perhaps all teams should insist on doing some silly pre-match dance |

To all the big people saying it's wank or isn't intimidating. I call bullshit! The haka is a war dance and is intimidating. Those men are pumped doing that. It's national pride. It's slitting throats. You'd piss yourself! And if you were still that big brave man, then you be brought back to reality in the first tackle. BOOM. |

"Anglosaxon/Viking Shieldwall? I'm sure we had war dances of our own, shame they're lost to time.
I'm sure we'd be told that it wouldn't be politically correct for us to do similar. "
Not from those days. Not that far back. There is a cut off point somewhere.
It's when we brag about all the Rule Brittania bollocks and casually forget our current global position is down to exploiting other peoples, other nations. Built off the back of slaves. Yet close enough in time to sting those whose family were effected.
Perhaps if we taught the darker side of our history, we'd be less likely to brag and boast about shite that had nothing to do with us? |

And if it really IS intimidating why are they allowed an unfair advantage? |

Lol.. hardly. All modern nations are guilty of hiding their darker past, glorifying the good bits, casually forgetting the genocides on their path up the global ladder. |

"Haka" is just a general term for a song and dance, there are various types. The one the All Blacks use only goes back to early 20th century, so hardly an ancient tradition or even part of Maori culture. In fact, there are a few notable Maoris who disagree with the rugby team doing it and have called it cultural appropriation, especially when performed by non-
Maori heritage members of the team. |

Maybe. It didn't stop them being colonized.
As Frankie Boyle once said, "Gun beats spear."
Sad but true. Anyway, it's only a harmless ritual. If it turns you on, instead of scaring you, it's probably just a kink. Like all that BDSM stuff. |
