"So what do we think about the NZ and SA teams now, having watched the match? Meet again in the final? Can anyone else match them? "

NZ have the edge for me and not just because they have won that first game, they have the power and speed and creativity, and yes I think that was the warm up for the final game, I can’t see anyone beating them ( she said secretly hoping the Chariots will ride to victory )

It's hard to say without seeing the other teams. I do think that SA for moments looked devastating and that rush defence is vicious but I don't think they look unbeatable by other good teams.

Like I said, a power game wouldnt work against NewZealand. It limits Englands ability to win the world cup, if they come up against NZ they are out.

South Africa have a better power game than England and they were the ones limping off not NZ.

For the rest of the teams not looking to play a power game, there is hope, they made technical errors. If you can absorb the phases you can force an error. They are a bit slow on their toes, probably because they trained heavily for power plays.

It's no wonder Ireland didnt get drawn into a power game when they played England in the run up, they probably assessed their likelihood of winning the world cup that way as zero, then used wales to hone their technical game.

Scotland came close to beating the All blacks in 2017 Autumn internationals . Have we progressed since then? I’m not sure we have - some games show promise others are just the Scotland of old .

That said, with a fair wind on our side, a good referee who doesn’t run off the pitch at the end after a dodgy decision and I would say Scotland stand as much chance as any other tier 1.

32 - 0 down at the end of the first half, to a 37 all draw and retain the Calcutta cup - Scotland certainly have it in them to rock up with the best of them

Also factor in the World Cup factor and anything is possible (you remember japan beating the Boks 4 years ago in Brighton )

It did seem to me that SA went out very hard initially and the first 20 mins was about NZ soaking up pressure and then counter-attacking off mistakes. Hard to keep that sort of intensity up.

"Ohhh noooo that’s held up surely

I think he managed to touch the line just before the Scottish hand got there

Yep. Only needs to be a split second these days.

With controlled downward pressure

The criteria for that used to be tougher many years ago.

It's silly little errors blighting Scotland game

The Irish pack is looking awesome. Be interesting to see how they fair against the Southern Hemisphere. If they can keep it as tight as they are now, they could be very difficult to beat.

Scotland *should* finish second in this group, they're looking toothless so far though, they don't seem to have the weapons to hurt Ireland

Great start to the world cup for Ireland.

A little bit of luck with the ball hitting the post and subsequent try but you make your own luck. I was expecting more from Scotland, they haven't put Ireland under pressure yet. Sad to see Hamish Watson depart.

I think Wayne Barnes has been an excellent referee for at least 5 years now. Consistently one of the best in the world.

He was shocking when he first came on to the international scene.
