A disgrace that he's even had to speak about it. Pathetic hatchet journalism finding offence where there is none.
Put up a headline that says 'PM paints face brown and wears turban' suggests something racial. Then the editorial says he's dressed up at a fancy dress party as Aladdin.
Total arse holes. |

"hair-trigger outrage by basically anyone just wanting to be noticed. One of the downsides of Twitter"
The previous liberal party’s critic for youth and multiculturalism... then the liberal party’s critic for citizenship & immigration...
This cant be the same Justin Trudeau that I’m reading about..... |

Seriously my exact thoughts x
I read the article and genuinely thought wtf , seriously, faux outrage at absolutely nothing,
Racists need to understand true nasty racism before the project utter nonsense as a slur
Just a side note right wing terrorism has been remarked by police as on the increase, including a foiled plot to pretend to be Islamists and cause human deaths
It's simple racism is mainly intent , and that intent can manifest itself in many combinations of words actions and consequence
He went to a party , his intent , look good have a good time , I think he succeeded
The irony of this is I feel it is racist to suggest a person cannot dress or emulate a character because of a skin tone difference. The meer suggestion it is, is a parody

Oh okay, its fine because it was just casual racism, and not lynching you up by a tree racism.
I have never black faced, and I was around in the 80s. I have never even seen one person black faced, even at halloween parties.
If it was 60's, 70's or 80's I would have told people to forget about it. If it was 90's it would have been dodgy, but the 2000's?
Some rich/important cunts kid just doing what he pleases, some yob twat.
Swastika at halloween, would have been fine, youre supposed to dress up as scary/evil stuff, but black face?
Out of curiosity have you ever black faced? |

It's got ridiculous. This hunting down people's past looking for misdemeanors to discredit them. These tactics have mainly been used by the left against the right, and now its happening the other way. For those who approved of it happening to people on the right who are now complaining when it happens to the left, it's hypocritical and smacks of double standards. The extremists are making all of the noise on both sides (and I have no time for either). But sadly the majority, who are more centrist, are being pulled to the extremes as they force everyone to take a side.
People have lost the run of themselves looking for anything to attack. Both sides. We need a bit of common sense brought back.
So I think the the phrase is here with Trudeau and the left is "Hoisted by his own petard". |

"Aladdin was Chinese.
Maybe the Chinese should complain about the translated versions making him Arabic."
If he had known that he would have put on spectacles and two goofy front teeth, and put on the most racist chinese person impression he could have. But it was a different time back then. |

I think you`ll find digging up your oppositions past to discredit them has been happening for many decades & by all sides, watch the film "Primary Colors", it shows it in all its pre-social media glory...
Also, isn't it funny how all the people defending him (& blacking up in general) are white.. Because, hey, its white people who have an in depth knowledge & the final say about what racism is.. |

Agreed its always been there, what's shifted is the narrative around it and the fact that every Tom, Dick, and Harriet is joining in. It used to only be the politicians and journalists.
And also agreed on who's doing the pushing. Virtue signalling people that are often doing more harm than good for the people they claim to be advocating for. |

"So what would you call morcome and wise or the Two Ronnie's it is as bad as calling Enid Blyton a racist x"
Titling a book...
"the three golliwogs" at a time when the term was a racist slut... Is racist.
Just becuase in that case in took years for the public call her out doesn't make it less racist.
There are loads of cases like that.
Ghandi was racist.
With this case though... If it looks like bull*
smells like bull*
taste like bull*
It's bullshit. |

I have seen interviews of some actors from back in the 50s/60's who black faced for a part in a comedy/film/drama.
They nearly all said at the time it was unsavoury, but they didnt find it flat out racist, and if they could have refused the part they would have.
So even back then people knew it was at the edge |

when many threads come up "your favourite TV series" we always tend to get a lot of 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' or 'Mind your language or Alf Garnett "Till death us do part". They wouldn't be shown now, classed as racist; were they racist?a lot forget Till Death Us Do Part was actually poking fun at racists |

I love the way his fellow liberals will happily throw him under the bus for this, just for their own political gain. Im kinda hoping they ruin him to the point they end up with a populist prime minister instead. Then i can pop over on a flight and give them all an especially slow clap... |

But in Canada the populist movement is the "social justice warrior" people. You would get serious points for not ignoring this and going after Justin as if he were a right wing racist in Canada. You would get no points for ignoring it cause then they would see you as hypocritical. |

Nope! Just making light of the situation. Everyone blows these things out of proportion. For goodness sake everyone has done things in their past that might look a bit out of the norm for 2019.
Swinging still gets raised eyebrows in many circles. But more common now I feel than some would like to admit.
Lets move on... |

Its incredibly easy for people who arent affected by this bollocks every day of their lives to make light of it & move on, isn't it.. And that's the point.
You may have important causes you fight for in life that mean eff all to the majority, some of us respect the fact it means something to you & either help, or quietly move on, as opposed to "making light of it", aka, taking the piss out of people for having beliefs that you don't understand..
That willful ignorance followed by piss taking isn't something to be proud of, even if it is incredibly common online these days. |

Well he apologised, is that enough? Or should his career be destroyed? These pictures weren't published for the benefit of anyone with brown skin, they were published for political gain. End of. Should our politicians be grown in labs, or must we accept they are human? It's not as if he was photographed supporting a terrorist group is it....? |

Ideally, part of being a president or prime minister is having a decent morals, ideally a lifetime of decent moral compass. If someone portays themself as having morals, then it later emerges they`ve been a wanker earlier in their life, it makes you question how genuine they are, & disappoints a good many people who thought you were representing them.
Its like Saville, loads of celebrities & royalty thought the sun shone out of his arse, after all, he did a lorra work for charity.. When that particular turd hit the fan, all those previously associated with him would have been shocked & disappointed, then distanced themselves, unsurprisingly, its the same thing (for many) here.
Is an apology enough? That's not for us to judge, as 1. we`re not Canadian, & 2. We aren't the people "blacking up" offends the most.. An apology doesn't cut it for me, personally. |

I hope this ends his career. The whole thing is absolute nonsense to be honest, but it's the same nonsense that he has been spreading and spouting for years. So I'm happy that he is now being eaten by his own. |

Not a fan if I'm honest. Not after the videos I've seen of him doing Prime Ministers Question Time.
Avoiding very important questions , no matter how they're worded.
I believe he's a very corrupt individual selling his nation down the river for personal profit. Much like all of our Prime Ministers. |

You know, its funny, I actually Googled "the Whitest places in the UK" this morning, most of the commenters making light on this topic come from places placed near the top of that very list, like in the 98% & above range... Coincidence? No, entirely predictable..
I`m fairly certain these are people who vehemently defend Golliwogs too.
Theres no point trying to explain things like this to people so willfully ignorant.. Totally pointless.

Why is that it only seems to be guilty white people that get fired up over this? Black people really don't give a shit about it - we have far more important things to worry about, and those things are just the same as everybody of any colour worries about. Stop beating yourselves up, dudes! Oh, and Trudeau's a complete tool for many, many other reasons. |

White people getting offended on black people's behalf, where black people couldn't give a fuck.
Some white liberal proving to be a hypocrite. I'm shocked...said no black person ever.
As an aside, my dad was from the Windrush generation. Racism in the 50s and 60s was in a different league, even in Brexit Britain.
My parents would have found this hilarious because their favourite programme was the black and white minstrel show. |

No one black person speaks for all black people, same as no one White person speaks for all white people.
No one person born in the 50's speaks for everyone born in the 50's.
We live in a mixed society and it's not down to any one age group or skin colour to define what is and isn't racist behaviour. Some people are just stupid, or overly sensitive and just because they cry 'Racism' It doesn't make it so. Some people are just stupid and insensitive, just because they scream 'Snowflake' it doesnt mean they're not racist.
For me, personally, it's the intent behind it.
My cousin dressed up as Ainsley Harriet for a fancy dress carnival party. Neither of us a racist, we both like Ainsley Harriet for his flamboyant and sexualised presenting style. My cousin went way over the top, to the point he cut a ping pong ball in half and made them Aisleys big eyes. Yes, he blacked up for it.
We all dress us up as popular characters from fact or fiction at these types of parties. So.. because I'm white, im not allowed to emulate my own personal heroes who happen to be black.
If I dressed as Ice Cube, Dre, Mohammed Ali, Ainsley Harriet or any other non-white celebrity without altering my skin tone artificially. Youd have no idea who I was attempting to impersonate.
So because I'm white, I can only impersonate white people? Isn't that a bit racist in itself? I dong do it, because it's clearly a sensitive issue and I don't wish to offend anyone. I don't have a racist bone in my body and am constantly challenging those I feel are.. always have done.. Always will.
It seems society, at this moment in time deems 'blacking up' as something quite offensive, so I'd not reccomend doing it. I would take zero offence at a black person 'Whiting up' Like has been done in many modern movies, provided the intent is harmless and the person altering their own tone, isn't racist in any other aspect of their lives.
I'd suggest anyone who has an issue with this watch Key and Peele comedy sketches. Two mixed race men who poke fun at both sides of the coin and the different stereotypes to challenge and mock, in a light hearted way.
If they can 'black/white up' On TV, I feel I can too. I just choose not to.

Some of the comments on this thread fucking amaze me.
Was I a 'snowflake' when two boys continued to refer me as 'n*****' for a month at school?
Trudeau didn't Black or brown up just once.
Has any of you actually googled the history behind either the Golliwog or Minstralty and why they came about?
Most black people don't spend time moaning on here or anywhere else, because they stopped being surprised or shocked a long time ago. |
