I had a burst appendix a couple of years ago and they had to do open surgery. I have a gnarley scar which wouldn’t look out of place in the scar comparison scene in jaws.

I used to be paranoid about it but my partner helped me realise it tells a story.

Anyone have scars or what are your thoughts about scars on others?

They are stories. Life stories. Every scar you have was an event. Some small events. Some large events. But they all form the story that is you. Never be ashamed of a scar. They were around before tattoos.

How big is this appendix scar? Surely only about a third of the size of a Caesarian scar?

Oddly I have a burst appendix scar. Happened when I was 6 or 7. Covers most of that side of my pelvis.

I've always looked at it as "that was when I could have died if not for modern medicine" never look on that as a disfigurement OP. But I hear that you're over that now...

I don’t mind scars. I have scars from surgery, accidents and a large scar/skin discolouration on my wrist from a second degree burn where i scalded myself with a cup of tea. Life happens.

My grampy had gunshot wound scars from the Second World War - I loved hearing how he got them. Insensitive twit that i am!

I'd tell people it was a bite if I were you. You were learning to surf in NSW in a place with no shark nets. You punched it on the nose and managed to swim ashore..

The finest ones are skin grafts left arm and left torso from a childhood accident, thighs are interesting due to the skin being taken for the above and gravel rash, then just accumulated cuts and things over the years

I have one about 10cm long just under my ribs. I had an operation at 2 months old for pyloric stenosis. I obviously don't even remember not having it so I often forget I'm any different to others until someone mentions it. Or when it starts twinging when I do ab excercises in the gym.

I also have a few small ones like on on my eyebrow from it being split and one in my groin from having a big cannula inserted in the vein so they could thread electrodes up it to my heart.

Quite apt for us at the moment. Hubby had surgery yesterday to partial remove a tumour and about 3 feet of knotted gut. He’s going to have a corker running from just below his nipples to his belly button. Chicks dig scars. Scars are just nature’s tattoo. Everyone has a story to tell. A scar would NEVER put us off meeting someone.

I had my appendix removed and had my children convinced I was attacked by ninjas for years because of the scar it left.

I had a few more but they seem to have disappeared. It's a bit like everything else you can either be self conscious about it or embrace it.

But to answer your question they tell a story and each one is unique.

*points to a scar on chest* Mary Ellen Moffat. She broke my heart.

- Hooper (Jaws)

I've a faint line running down my left flank - Shark attack (carrying a makeshift market stall, guy I was carrying it with wasnt paying attention and one of the 6ft metal picket that made up each corner, sliced up my side as stall fell sideways

I've a juicy one on my ankl - Bear mauling (knocked off a moped by a Seat Leon). As they sewed my tendons back together, I could see my toes wiggling and it wasn't me doing it! Worse still was when they grabbed the tendon that started tugging on my groin!

Scars equal stories, I find them interesting and help get to know people better.

Scars add decorative character to a body in my opinion. In my teens I came out of a brawl with multiple stab wounds and an awesome new nickname, Holey-Del, which obviously left a shed load of scars, chest drain scars, a exploratory laparotomy scar which I popped doing sit ups not long after and a surgical scar running from my heel to my butt cheek to repair a severed nerve - it was like a bloomin' zip along my leg when I first copped eyes on it, what with all the staples. Ironically I was in a tattooists today and we were working out a path to avoid going over any of the scars as many have mentioned above, scars tell a story.

I’ve got a scar on my forehead. I had a motorbike crash in Thailand 20 years ago. The scar is from the brain surgery I had not the accident. Often people don’t mention it until they’ve known me for several years. Maybe because it’s more prominent after I’ve caught the sun.

I don’t mind it, it’s part of me now and I’ve got a wicked story to tell. The only thing I can’t stand about the whole incident is that it came about as a result of my own stupidity. Phoning my parents from my hospital bed on an island of the coast of Thailand the day after the surgery is not something I want to repeat.

It would depend on where that person is currently. Are they still in that frame of mind? If so, I'd be concerned, I'd not want to add to the pressure they're already feeling.

If they're old and it's not continuing. It's just another scar story that adds character, for me.

I have a few scars dotted around my person.

Some vaguely heroic looking, but mostly from being, what is commonly known as, "a twat".

As far as I'm concerned, an odd scar is only a problem if you're self concious about it.

I have scars all over the place.

My nose from being a stupid kid, I jumped over a rocking horse and fell onto a concrete slab. I was 4 at the time.

A nice 3 inch scar on my abdomen from an operation, that was in my late 20's.

These tell a story like everyone says.

You're not old. If they were fresh.. then yes, I'd have my concerns, especially if it's not something they'd mentioned prior to meeting.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm saying I personally may feel uncomfortable. I've no automatic right to that info prior to meeting, but to me common sense would dictate that its something you'd have brought up. If you did, it'd depend on the conversation we had together as to whether I continue on to a meet, or just become a friend.

I'd probably want to go do some research, ask you questions and get verbally feel you up a bit before making a decision.

"Self harming is mental illness or on its way as is a symptom of deeper troubles.

So are you fine with meeting self harmers? as most peeps said they love scars? they all tell a story after all! surgeons knife or not lol, just after views as i`m confused on the issue

I’m not aware I’ve met any. It’s not a question I ask before i make a decision to meet them or not.

Just a question if you met with no idea and seen fresh deep scars? would you think ekk and say no thanks?"

I think I'd like to know more about that person..

I have a few, don't do tats.

Some have been from my mistakes (angle grinder for instance), others from being run over.

They are what they are, they are me.

One on my left forearm which i have no idea where it came from..a zig zag shaped one one my wrist from doing a very high tackle in rugby at school and the boys braces dug into my wrist and one on my chin from falling over again at school cutting chin open. Plus a few more here and there.

"I love the great support from people saying scars are great and they love the stories, what are your views on self harm? only seen the surgery/bullets/explosions chat x don`t shoot me down! just asking! ah well fire away lol

It would depend on where that person is currently. Are they still in that frame of mind? If so, I'd be concerned, I'd not want to add to the pressure they're already feeling.

If they're old and it's not continuing. It's just another scar story that adds character, for me.

Haha i`m old and have tons of character! as do most humans

Research on fab? wanna fuck? ok

I’ve got 3 biggish ones, two on my face, from a sporting accident and a bike crash and one on my back from being glassed.

They don’t bother me at all, mostly because I don’t see them unless I’m looking in the mirror, which I try to avoid, lol

Wasn't sure about scars but my OH has a quite a few due to a pretty tough life, kids, surgery and a wanky ex husband. They're just part of her and I kinda love them because they're unique, nobody else has the same and they remind me how fragile she is but still so strong. Scars are cute

The small scar on my face was made by the point of a sharp sword that I wasn’t quick enough to deflect or move. It’s called being a stupid idiot playing with real swords.

I've a massive scar on my leg from surgery after a crash. I've also some from a darker time which I don't talk about as there seems to be a huge stigma still surrounding that issue.

To the person who said self harm is a mental illness no it's not it's a symptom of a mental issue. I'm not a self harmer, but I have dated a few in the past. Some use it as a coping mechanism. Same as people with OCD issue. Is it linked to mental illness yes it is. But the act itself is not a mental illness.

They need to be healed for me...Because if one is not healed, and self harm to me is a symptom, then you are at risk of getting hurt and also them getting their wounds open, those on skin, as well as those on the inside.

Self harm becomes a normal coping method says the professionals, you get used to that rather than other methods that normal humans use! it can be fatal! when mixed with meds and alcohol as i have first hand with! i could write a book on blackouts and the morning after a dark day

"Scars add decorative character to a body in my opinion.

Would love to know if you can get tattooed over scars! i mean deep scars lol i would sell my soul to get half sleeves both arms "

Yeah I had many an experience with that with the Ex's, and the clean up. Always keep a first aid kit with lots of dressings as a result.

You should love them, they are your life story, especially if they are the reason you are still here today, I have two one quite large from a life saving operation, most people don’t even notice it and certainly doesn’t put people off that we have met in this world that’s for sure, so no more worrying about them

Walsall

I have Caesarean scar, and wouldn't change it for anything, that's where my son came from.

Beauty is in within not on the outside

(titch xx)

The scar and tattoo question reminded me of my beautiful friend who had an injection type of mark on her left bum cheek. She got a tattoo of pouty lips all around it. It actually worked

"I have a large scar approx 6in long in my pubic area were I had varicose veins removed from my testicles . It doesn't look great"

I've no problem with scars. One woman i met had one on her elbow, presumably from an operation, with marks from the stitches, not a problem to me but she was self conscious about it

"Round my left bicep where most of the muscle had to be cut away when I had my arm almost severed

What happened?"

At work, cutting up some heavy duty steel, ended up with saw nearly take my my arm off, luckily didn't hit artery so walked bout half mile back to van, waiting for ambulance would've taken too long,no where for air ambulance to land, knew as long as I was conscious had to get myself out of there, had to have muscle cut away cos of dirt n being ripped took three months to recover,or at least get as good as it ever will

"I had a burst appendix a couple of years ago and they had to do open surgery. I have a gnarley scar which wouldn’t look out of place in the scar comparison scene in jaws.

I used to be paranoid about it but my partner helped me realise it tells a story.

Anyone have scars or what are your thoughts about scars on others? "

Scars totally tell the story of you! Not off putting at all, they just make you, you!

Anyone want to show pics of their scars? D x
