I got done a couple of months ago and nobody said anything about delaying. I had a wank about three days later and it was fine. Before that it just didn't feel comfortable going through the motions.
I suggest you listen to your body. If you feel ready and it feels good doing it then you'll be fine. If your body says it doesn't like it then calm down or stop.
