I've had to do it, I quietly took them to one side and asked if they were ok, had any issues then said it was because they look run down and they're hygiene might of slipped. They were mortified but did shower and but deodorant |

Yep, also had to do this with an employee and considering we do a physical job, he should have been more aware of it... the company provide showers as many times a day as you need, so no excuses really.
I'm fairly comfortable with telling them they're a bit on the fragrant side. |

I wouldn't tell a stranger. If it was a close friend or someone I had to work with often I'd ask them to meet me outside and get the pressure hose on them. I reckon that would get the message across. |

"It's not my place to say so I would keep my nose outta their business
The problem is their business is impacting on your nose. "
Agreed, but still..... Not my place to say. |

Oh no I wouldn't say either. I sat through a two hour meeting next to a guy who hadn't troubled a shower for some time. I think the smell of his hair was the worst. But I don't know his story and if there were problems I couldn't have helped him |

Didn’t you search the library shelves for a book on how to wash??
Not an easy subject to tackle especially with a stranger in a public place

I get really paranoid when I have to pop into the shop on the way home from the stables or fishing... I'm usually in boots and jodhs coming back from the stables, so at least folk know why I stink, but I just wear old jeans and sweaters fishing, and leave my gear and boots on the boat |

Not everyone has a home or ready access to bathing facilities. If someone in public is using free to access public services, they may be more likely to have accommodation and/or finance issues.
It's not my role to police public washing |

"I have managed lots of staff over the years and actually in many cases people were oblivious of their odour. Most people want to assimilate into their environments so a quiet word usually works. "
This ^
So many when I’ve had to approach them are mortified and unaware of their smell. You get used to / immune to smells around you. Some of the people I’ve managed turned out they had a medical problem which was the underlying cause.
Never be disrespectful, you don’t know people’s individual circumstances, there could be many reasons |

Or even if they did have a home, a choice between eating and a can of deodorant |
