Is it a present for yourself or your friend if it's like this?

If you wanted to take a family member away for the weekend (you are paying) and your birthday was 4 months after their birthday, if on their birthday you were to tell them you are taking them away just after your birthday, does that mean you are not really doing it for their birthday your kind of doing it for yourself, or is it still a very nice thing to do for them?
You know it's somewhere they would really like to go, and the reason for the date being around your own birthday is that the prices spike near theirs and then become a lot more affordable around yours and you couldn't really afford to do it around theirs.
I apologise if I have somehow managed to make what I'm trying to get across a lot more complicated than it needed to be!

To the person taking the other one away it means whatever their motives is.
To the person being taken away it means whatever they think the others motivation is.
In situations such as this the taking away person is best off explaining the reason for the timing or the other one should just be flaming grateful |

The date isn't that important really - if I was your family member I would still adore it regardless of when it was. I'd also understand the financial side of things - I'm quite sensible with money and would rather a friend/family member saved a decent amount instead of taking me during peak season because of feeling obligated to.
It sounds lovely and thoughtful OP. |

Thank you so much for all your input. That was the only thing stopping me booking it as a surprise and I'm going to go ahead with it now.
Thank you all it's much appreciated and you have put my mind at rest. |

What a sad world it becomes when doing something special for another becomes so mired in how will it been seen by another....
Give freely if you can, how others perceive or receive is for them alone, and those who question our motives for giving....they have the problem, not those who give.... |

If you're paying for them you're treating them still. My birthday was a few months ago and my partner bought me tickets for Harry Potter studios. We decided to book it for while we're on our way to London for his birthday trip. It just makes financial sense with travel and time off. |
