I'm sure someone will tell me this isn't a new topic but it is to me.
I've seen plenty of discussions about fake pics or people, especially men sending pics that were taken years ago and that they beat no resemblance to their pics on meeting.
It's only since coming back and taking a more active part in forums that I've been looking at more profiles than before and across a wider area.
So many have pics dating back to 2010 or 2011 and I wondered how others feel about that?
Don't get me wrong, a good pic is a good pic regardless of when it was taken and of you are not meeting or just here for the forums or social side that's perfectly fine.
If you are meeting new people though how many of us still look exactly as we did 8 or 9 years ago and are we creating a false impression?

I don't really believe pics anyway to be fair. Met too many people that don't look like theirs and I think my pics are better than I look. I don't walk round with people above me to get a non chin shot

My pics are pretty recent and every now and again I add a new one.
I don't think I've changed much over the last 10 years anyway.
Few more grey hairs up my nose and my ear hair is more lush....
That's why I've not got nose and ear pics in my gallery. |

It always amuses me.
In this day & age, smartphones, tablets, laptops - all contain built in cameras.
How hard can it be to take a new pic & upload it?
I've had messages from people with pics dated 2010 before, when I've asked for a recent pic, I get no response.
Of course pics can be recycled, reloaded so they appear to be new (I've posted on another thread about someone local to me who does this)

I think very few look exactly like their pics
Pics provide a flat 2D image into a life
They portray what the owner thinks we want to see, how they want their Fab self to be viewed
In my experience, they are rarely accurate
You need to meet someone, see them move, hear them talk, see how they interact with you and others, hear them laugh, pick up on their body language, assess your similarities and suitability
A pic on a site is just a window to all that opportunity |
