your whole life in a phone
Jump to: Newest in thread
Banking, bus pass, rail pass, payment methods etc, etc,
is this a good or bad thing?? what if the phone stops working, how do you cope if banks etc are closed, or you want to get on the bus home and you have no cash?? what if you lose it or break it??
is it sensible to put your whole life into one device??
intrigued |

If your phone breaks then there’s this new invention called the t’internet that allows you to do everything you can on your phone on a laptop or ipad. It’s amazing |

I had this recently when I smashed the screen on my phone...all my contacts were stored on my phone, I didn't know the login details for many things (including online banking), I hadn't backed my whatsapp up for months. I was completely stuck, couldn't get in touch with anyone, including my parents who spend the summer overseas.
It took three weeks for my phone to be repaired, and the first thing I did when I got it back was back everything up and record login and contact details elsewhere. |

My phone is currently broken. I'm really lost without it. It has my bank cards on, my calendar, banking apps, photos, contacts. Sooner its fixed the better, but I didn't realise how reliant I was on it |

I have everything on my phone, but it’s all backed up to iTunes on my laptop.
So if I were to lose my phone, it be stolen or it break, I may be inconvenienced for the day but it’s all backed up, and when I buy a new one I can back it up to be exactly where it was before it broke, got stolen or lost.
Although all my banking is online and I use a virtual “wallet”, I always have all my cards with me anyway, unless it’s a night out! |

I rarely use ma phone for anything other than texting/talking, occasionally coming on here if I'm at a loose end or waiting for an appointment. I bought it cos it has a good camera, I then transfer pics to a storage device via ma p.c. |

It's the same with passwords, you have to have so many characters, some capitals, numbers, I've just written all mine down now |

I have several back ups, from cash at work, to two devices that require my thumb to access online banking. I'm agreed with previous poster, before all of this online/phone we'd be talking about losing wallets or purses.
So if I was to lose my phone i'd be ok, as I live on my own I'm used to making sure I have a back up plan |

"This is exactly why I don't.
No banking, no payment, no train pass etc on here - like the physicality of cash and less risk. "
Same here. I'm old style. |

i'm a bit old school so i don't own a mobile phone or do anything of any importance on line at all.
i think on the whole we've been duped into the importance of all owning a phone and the importance of being present on line, weather that be having a social media account or running our finances or other aspects on line and we've been sold this mostly on 'convenience'
i've found it works the other way round, no phone ring dinging in my pocket,no notifications to check, no messages from, well, anyone! no e mail to sort through, no banking apps to mess about with, no messaging apps pinging away with peoples latest inane bullshit and no constant worry about keeping my whole life in one basket that could be a massive pain in the arse if i lost it why i'd ever want that back in my life i'll never know. |

Exactly
I'm lost without my phone to be honest- but I think most people are.

My phone not so much. It’s backed up on a cloud somewhere.
But if I ever lost my wallet I’d be gutted. I’ve got real photos in there that can never be replaced.
Can you get old photos copied? |

Scanning them onto a computer is better for image quality, you can back up the files safely, and upload them to a prints site to order extra copies from if you like. |
