I'm not a footy fan by any means and it's always a bit of a shock when a young player goes down like this.
Could anyone answer me a question?
Did this type of thing happen in the game from the 1950's - 90's?

i hate to see anything like this happen to anyone but as a birmingham city fan i have very fond memories of him running his heart and soul out for the team.
may he get well soon and be back to his very best |

like i have posted, it happened about 10 years ago to a player in the african cup of nations. it has happened a couple of times in the past also im sure. houllier was taken ill at halftime in a match whilst at liverpool. and then again at villa, but he is an old man. |

maybe not for you, but personally i didnt know the guy, yes its sad and i feel for his family but i am not i mourning for him.
i do think in this day and age of social network sites etc there is so much false compassion.....but maybe that is another thread, not wanting to hijack Fabios thread about a tragic occurance |

no one expects you to mourn him - but its common courtesy to crack jokes when a young man maybe be dead |

I don't feel that this sort of thing can be taken lightheartedly, as it just proves it can happen to anyone at anytime, trust me I know from personal experience. So if you have any sarcastic comments please keep them to yourself |

Maybe some can crack jokes about a footballer collapsing on the pitcvh cos he was just one of them footballers eh?
How about if I now tell you that he arrived here at the age of 11 after his father had to flee his homeland and this young boy took the opportunity presented to him and gained 10 GSCEs and 3 A Levels in Math, English & French, and instead of going out on the piss like a lot of young men of 23 he preferred to listen to opera music in his free time.
I hope he pulls through but I fear his playing days are over as he simply won't get the insurance needed to compete at that high level. I wish him well. |

more north lincs than mids! |
I think anyone making a joke of a young man of 23 having a heart attack, in front of 36,000 people whilst playing a football match plus countless thousands of people sat at home watching on the telly, very sad indeed.
There is a time and a place for jokes, and for me, this isn't one of them.
He has a young son who needs his daddy, and his fiance who he got engaged to just 4 weeks ago!
While I don't expect people to grieve for someone they don't know, or even have compassion, I don't think a bit of empathy could go amiss.
If you have nothing nice to say then best say nothing at all.
Get well soon Maumba |

Obviously I don't know the lad personally, but it was sad to see this on the news about a young lad and I hope he recovers to see his child grow up. |

A friends son has cardiomyopthy, which may be what this poor footballer also had...the test only costs £35 , just think for £35 no one need ever die unexpectedly of this again

just wanted to say a few things.... since i have been out all night...
fabrice is not your average footballer... from his escaping the congo and his family having to be given political asylam, to him going to school knowing no english to come out of school with 10 gcse's and 3 a levels, to buying his parents house when he 1st turned pro, to his representing england at every level, to him loving opera and wanting to be of all things, an accountant...
being an arsenal fan a lot of us knew we had this special kid coming thru the ranks... and it was when we sent 3 trainees to birmingham.. seb larsson, nick bendtner and muamba, that he blossomed....
I was said to see him go, and believed he would go on to better things....
he may not have been family in the truest sense of the word... but the one thing i pride myself on is that my club treats everyone who has been thru its doors as part of one big family... and i am sure that when he recovers we will all rally around him...... |

you know, so many people moan about arsenals reliance on foreign talent, but they seem to forget just how many English players, in the leagues, have come through the Arsenal youth academy. just a shame they dont promote them, or cant hold on to them. |

I was reading he was clinically dead for 58 minutes! WTF!?
With that kind of damage and the physical trauma of being resuscitated which apparently is as horrendous as the heart attack i.e. shattered rib cage damaged arteries etc (some doctors have it written down that they should not be resuscitated if in arrest because of this).
It's going to be an incredible long road to anything resembling normal life for Fabrice Muamba but the guy must have some serious fight in him to get to survive this far, I hope he recovers as fully as possible. Apparently a very sweet and gentle man according to his colleagues.
I can't believe he hasn't undergone some sort of heart screening before now. I know my own club Sunderland do it but I believe there are only a handful in the UK do it. It should be made compulsory. |
