I drink far too much of the stuff, but usually, I'll have 4g, milk, 1 sugar, with a frothy top (if I can be bothered)

I take mine as a caramel latte over ice, a flat white is a strong tripple shot coffee which is condensed and made with a textured milk with micro bubbles inside i make it for a living

Manchester (she/her)

Black, third wave filter of some kind depending on the coffee.

If I'm not sure about the quality I'll have a latte because milk drowns horrible coffee.

Generally a flat white is stronger and less foamy than a latte.

Do more people drink coffee over tea?

Why isn’t the phrase fancy a tea the same as fancy a coffee more widely used? Is this down to consumption?

A flat white has less foam than a latte and the foam is of a smoother flatter texture. Hence the name Flat White.

Black americano. Extra shot. No milk, no sugar.

And lots of it.

I find if I have milk in coffee, I have to have sugar. Tastes weird otherwise.

However, what surprises is me now when your in a restaurant and the “oldies” (my parents or alike) and the conversation goes

O - can I have a coffee please

W - what type ?

O - just a regular coffee

W - yes but what type we have, latte, americano, espresso.... the list goes on

O - no idea just a coffee

W - yes but you have to tell me what type

O - like the sort you have at home, boil the kettle add to coffee, stir and serve

W - yes but what type is that

O - I don’t know, Nescafé ?

O - ok forget the coffee, I’ll just have a tea

W - no problem, what type of tea

Oldie’s head hits the table

I remember being in Australia and ordering "an ordinary coffee with milk" for somebody I was with. The server quickly said a couple of syllables I didn't recognise so I asked her to repeat it. She blurted it out again. The accent, the speed and the fact I was unfamiliar with the term meant it took several goes to understand her. Eventually she slowed right down and enunciated clearly. That was the first time I ever heard the term "flat white".

"What's that?" I asked.

"It's an ordinary coffee with milk" she said.

Sigh.

Manchester (she/her)

For an ordinary coffee, order an Americano here (with milk on the side). Long black in other places (you won't get milk).

A latte is a good starter milky coffee drink.
