I know you're about. How are you finding it? Do you have a routine you're comfortable with? Are you enjoying it? (also applies to other deliberate physical activity)

Do you have goals, how are they doing?

Judgement free zone please.

Went every weekday for 6 months then went on hols and gained a stone in weight :/

Struggling to get back into the routine and get over the disappointment in fitness levels not being what they were.

Have a programme of days: Chest, Shoulders, Back, Legs, Arms. 1hr sessions with mix of free weights, machines, floor and always 10m of cardio at the end.

Love it most of the time because my gym is VERY quiet

I'm about.

I find it hard not going to lie. I keep telling myself something will click soon and I will be addicted. I also look at GothamsFinest for inspo haha. I get bored quite quickly so I'm trying different classes now. My friend has suggested boxercise so I'm going to try that. I'm lifting now! I'm quite strong which makes me happy.

My goal is to be fitter and healthier, I haven't set an arbitary dress size one. But what I quite like is as my waist is reducing and my back my arse is more defined. I was sort of like a teletubbie at one point but now I have a definite shape - my bum goes out quite a lot. My legs look better as well. And naked I feel a lot happier than this time a couple of months ago.

I'm all about encouraging the intimidated relative beginner. I've been there, trust me.

I spent years dicking around getting nowhere in the gym. Just one of those things you're supposed to do, exercise.

All changed after a serious injury. I want to minimise the long term issues associated with that. And discovered I really enjoy weight lifting.

My goals are functional. Less pain, ability to do more. The aesthetic stuff actually catches me by surprise.

Oh. And my routine (new-ish) is push/pull/legs plus HIIT based cardio. (God I've become one of those people lol)

been back at the gym now for 3 months after a near 4 year break following a bad bike crash .and a few big surgeries to remove part of 2 ribs and sternum plus a spacer in my neck to replace discs that prolapsed.used to be in great shape around 15st.dropped to below 12st and lost all the muscle especially down my left arm due to nerve damage in my neck.but im getting back in shape now added 1 1/4 st in 3 months getting my definition back.but struggling with the stomach as im eating to bulk up i cant seem to loose the paunch and still have 1 arm slightly bigger that the other.i have to push myself out the door but once there i feel good about it.and helps that mrs b is there also and is happy losing 1 1/2 stone in the same period its helped her confidence no end ."mr b"

If you're bulking, you won't lose the paunch. That requires a calorie deficit. Worry about it later. Just get stronger for now.

I was starting to find training a bit stale. So last night I went bouldering for the first time.

Ohhh my gosh. So much fun!!! I was a bit nervous at first, it's quite high without a harness! But soon found my feet and thoroughly enjoyed it!!

But jesus, everything hurts this morning!

I'm weird. I like the numbers in weight lifting. Can I do just a little more? Measurable improvement.

(and it really doesn't matter if your little more is 2kg or 200kg. It's not a competition. It's making your body better, and it should be celebrated)

Trying to get back into cycling.

I don't have a routine yet, but certainly not liking it at all.

I find myself comparing me now to a 20 year old me, who was much younger, much fitter and a dam site faster. Finding hard to come to terms with me being back at square one.

You’re quite right. I can’t lift anything with my penis.

I’m enjoying the new gym I had to join because the old one was closed for major refurbishment.

I’m back in the routine now but need to re-evaluate my diet so I can shift some weight that crept back on over the last 12 months.

Another lifestyle adjustment is needed as I can’t sustain the level of exercise that caused the weight to drop off me 3 years ago.

I'm in on this one for the importance of exercise.

6 years ago I could hardly walk let alone run or anything like that. I went to see my doctor one day and she told me I needed a walking stick to aid me. I told her politely of course " you can stick a stick where the sun dont shine" and that was my kick up the ass. I have a young son and needed to beable to get about for him.

I lost weight about 2.5 stone at the time whilst giving up smoking and learnt to swim as I couldn't do anything that impacted my knee.

It's hard to face your fears as we get older and it's also harder when you dont like yourself very much.

It took me 6 mths to beable to swim frout crawl one length. I cant remember how many times I just wanted to give up. Then within 12 weeks I could swim 120 lengths, 70 to 90 easily upto 4 times a week.

So then I took up rd cycling and the rest is history and now I've embarked on pilates. I even treated myself to a smart watch recently that's a massive focus point would recommend.

It's never to late. Dont worry about whatever anyone else is doing. Set yourself realistic goals and try and enjoy yourself.

Classes are great to get you going as you have to pre book and if your anything like me they make me go when I'm not feeling it.

Like the OP has said the physical benefits are great but the mental benefits I couldn't even explain.

If you suffer from depression or anxiety exercise will make you feel so much brighter.

No pain no gain.

We are worth it

Great thread OP. X

I'm 1 week into a 6 week push/pull/legs routine .... liked the idea of it. It's tough but I need to push myself. Also added weekly targets of abs/run/bike/row to get that cardio burn going !

I’m more a runner than a gym person but my training regime has been kicked into a cocked hat over the last month, I’ve managed to get out yesterday and today and already I’m feeling better.

I would say this..being a pt. But...seriousy..everyone should book some pt time...with the right person they can transform your workouts into truly beneficial training sessions.

Everyone is different...and sometimes just 2 or 3 sessions can help you train better.

Anyway..give it some thought...i work with a lot of more mature clients who have had young 22yr old pts who simply dont understand older peoples needs..abilities etc.

The right trainer can make exercise enjoyable and beneficial.

And lastly...there is no quick fix...no easy route to that body you want. And Never compare yourself to others. Be the best version of you.

I really need to get back to lifting, i've never managed to get back into it after rupturing my achilles tendon a couple of years ago. I do dance regularly (a lot at the moment as I have a show in October), but I miss the squat rack

I usually have a good run going 3 times a week for a few months before stopping for a couple of weeks.

I'm pretty happy with my weight, I'm a slim man anyway but I am trying to put a bit more muscle on. My routine is the main lifts (Squats, Deadlifts, Shoulder Press, Bench Press) with a few other things thrown in there.
