"Words, I think I have aphantasia, so I don't see pictures in my mind
Have you always had it? I'd never heard of it."
Have always had it, just never knew it wasn't how everyone else is until very recently! Exeter Uni are running a study on it apparently |

"Words and feelings.
I rarely think in pictures and if I do think in pictures they're blurry
P"
Ok, I just had a quick looksie at it. If my eyes are closed I can't visualise anything at all, if my eyes are open I can kinda daydream but not very well. People are more like ghosts, see through ya know.
More from memory descriptions, so things I know rather than visualise.
I've tried lucid dreaming and stuff and can't so the meditation where they tell you to "imagine you're in XYZ", on a beach, climbing stairs etc. Cant do that for shit.

It varies, with most of it being subconscious and getting flashes of meaning, pictures, sounds and words. If I develop my thoughts, I'll usually have some outline visual concepts. When I get emotional elements, it adds further meaning. |

I read an article where a guy had a heart operation and lost the ability to think in pictures. His may be the case that made them discover it.
Great question OP! One of those things people never talk about. But it's interesting. |

I often think visually as well as in words. It depends. When I’m writing for work it is often in words unless Im doing something creatively then I’ll put words to the pictures. When I’m writing poetry I use visual imagery and cues to.create the idea and then words to create the prose and rhymes.
I store a lot of my memories physically and therefore need to move whenever I’m presenting so that my memories and speech flow. So sometimes movement creates my thoughts. |
