Other names she's considering are Buke (is that even a word?), Rasher (would go nice with shank if she had twins), hug (which is right up there with fucking apple imo) and...cope (I can't)

I have nothing against unusual and unique names. My husband has one.
However, the names this woman is seemingly considering are cruel to inflict on a child, likely to result in a child who gets bullied throughout school.
Let's hope that she sees sense before the naming actually happens.

I think you have completely overreacted and definitely seemed to be looking for an argument the way I read your comments.
More about trying to highlight your own issues rather than standing up for the mother.
And in fact if you where THAT compassionate and understanding you would realise that if the woman does have mental health issues even more reason for people to advise her not to make a mistake by giving the child a completely ridiculous name.
What if she decides to call the kid potato skin's magee is that ok if she's suffering from mental health issues???
No it just means it's a ridiculous and she should be told so,no one is suggesting she be sectioned and the kid taken away .

There was an article in paper a few months ago about a school refusing to accept a child as their name was deemed inappropriate but I can't remember what it was. It was something like skizz or something like that. |

Being unique is a positive. But being 1 of 1, is lonely. This poor girl needs to understand that calling her child Shank, will definitely increase the chances of said child joining a mental health group in future years. Poor kid. |
