The Home Office are putting anti knife crime messages on fried chicken boxes. Diane Abbot seems to think this is racist.
Not sure it will work myself. They put unit warnings on alcohol bottles but who takes any notice? |

Diane Abbott thinks everything is racist
But that aside, messages on boxes aren't the answer. |

Diane abbot could spell racist but likes throwing it around a lot...
Yr right don’t think it will work .. but it would be good to see something positive come out of her mouth instead of the shit that normally does .. and to see what her initiatives are to detour and reduce knife crime, |

This is days old and yet when it hits Fab the same nonsense seen in other places gets trotted out.
The argument for is that it is part of a wider campaign.
The argument against is that it's a bloody terrible element of the campaign for too many reasons to go into on here unless I want a row.

Which is open to challenge. Your opinion does not make it fact.
How would you cope with get disparaging and racist remarks thrown at you every single day of your life multiple times? I've had my run-ins with her but she shows more strength of character and resilience in her little finger than most of us have in our entire bodies.
That's my opinion and my exercising of my freedom of speech.

What do young, disenfranchised people like. Grime and fried chicken. OK get stormzy on the phone. Also KFC, Morleys and favourite chicken.
That'll stop knife crime.
Much like when Sajid Javed had a crack down on "higher income recreational drug users" by wrapping copies of the spectator in warnings about the dangers of cocaine use.
Who needs funding for public services when you can have a good targeted PR campaign. |

Quite.
The end point of this is, largely, middle class, casual users. Their recreational use is driving the trade which leads to the grooming of and violence to and between young people. Wrapping that up as a message on the Spectator goes nowhere when half the cabinet are implicated.

It was Khan who raised the issue in the press about usage driving a lot of the problems. Largely ignored and the press went back to the usual discourse.

I assume the premise here is the American stereotype that all African Americans love fried chicken?
If so yes that's racist.
But everything else aside, that doesn't really hold true in this country because the stereotype is bare chicken that is deep fried, typically with the skin left on. It isn't actually chicken in a breadcrumb, batter or other coating.
So I guess that makes it either not racist, or so racist they can't even get their stereotypes right |

"Do those who carry knives stop off for kfc pre rampage?! Really don’t see the relevance "
The thinking is that knife crime is predominantly committed by black youth and everyone knows black people looooove fried chicken.
Ergo, putting messages on fried chicken boxes is the obvious answer...dah!!! It's bound to work, like Nancy Reagan's "just say no!" campaign. |

Yep!
Should've gone the whole hog and labelled up all the water melons to avoid any ambiguity.
Some solution this one. |

In all fairness when there has been a killing or a stabbing it's a certain colour of skin that has done it , so I guess targeting the places they go to makes sense , there not going to put messages on a wAitrosse hummus wrap |

Great shout, will save the Hummus Wraps for messages against child sex offenders since they're predominantly white middle aged men, or should they just put it on all Greggs products? Waitrose wraps should probably be reserved for white collar crimes and small print congratulating middle class white people on continuing to be benefactors of systemic and institutional racism; will look perfect on a Cauliflower Steak. |

as is Corbyn. Its great though so many are loosing confidence in the loony labour party so they can stay right there
As for the chicken boxes... i doubt it will make a difference knife crime is rife and more prominent in certain cultural circles.. many being of eastern europe origin, the crime stats speak for themselves.

It's not universal. I don't believe KFC is part of the campaign. It's mostly smaller, independent chicken shops, hence some of the concern about racism. The shops are in less leafy, white areas.

I don't there's a word for 75%'d - that's about the level of cuts to funding for youth services. Decimated is tiny compared to the actual damage.

Who buys them? It's mostly not the young people. Writing off young people who have been groomed into actions that lead to this violence is the sad bit.
It's also about loss of provision, poverty and a demonisation of young people - remember ASBOs? |
