"I suppose it depends on the flavour of religion.
True, most the ones I’ve heard from say that though."
You're not listening very hard then..
All powerful.. All knowing.. All of equal worth. Whether practiced by the millions, or in the Church of one. Religions and Faith (and lack there of).
LOTS of "Pagan" Religions believed you didn't belong to anyone but yourself.

Very true indeed
Incidentally I did once hear maybe one or two of the smaller religions, who like to refer to texts written by bronze age humans , yet suggested that they are the words of an all knowing all powerful creator in these texts I'm told there are some commandments one of which mentions coveting another's wife .
I guess our OP might have heard one of these rare members of the human race
It is probably because although only a minute minority hold the belief the text is true , they are so convinced and caring they vocally must help others avoid an unexpected ultimate judgment |

I heard men of pagan Faith are now allowed beards in the army. Apparently their Faith dictates it.
I have a hard time accepting Faith based exemptions for jobs like the Armed Forces.
There is a reason for tight grooming standards and the ritual head shave in Basic Training. You're all broken down as equals and built back up again as parts of a whole.
Yet there are some to whom the rules never seem to apply and they kick up a fuss because their religious texts say so.
Funny thing is Pagan belief's texts tend not to survive.. This guy is a "Viking".. Apparently they believed you HAD to have a beard. Though I'm pretty sure I've never read that anywhere in my trawl through history. |

Actually no beards rule stems from the sealing of your respirator during CBRN. Trust me I know on this.
The original post was meant as a bit of fun, but it’s been taken out of the original context. That’s the problem with written text I guess. |
