Self identify and empower yourself...
Jump to: Newest in thread
So another thread got me thinking.
Someone said regarding to body size on here, that you should self identify as you see fit, and empower yourself by doing so.
But is it really an empowering thing to do if it’s clearly not the case?
You can say you’re slim when you’re actually large, or vice versa, but is that empowerment or delusion?
You could identify as anything you like, but if you know you aren’t that, why would you even consider doing so?
I know that these days we have men identifying as women and women as men, but that’s a different subject (or is it?) but for now, what do you think if someone says they are something they clearly aren’t?

We've never been into false advertising.
If someone doesn't like your shape/size then there'll be others who will. No point in being dishonest/deluded because if you're going to meet someone then all will become obvious anyway. |

All that matters is people are happy and positive as can be, can spend your whole life feeling ugly fat or thin but all that matters is your own opinion of yourself and your own goals in life, if you are lucky enough to be happy with what you have you are indeed a lucky person |

"Let them all crack on
If a horse identifies as a sheep I no longer care.
Whatever you say it's going to offend someone so it's better to be quiet
"
I have to say that this pretty much sums it up for me too |

Partially agree.
Yes, nobody should ever beat themselves up - whatever you want in life, that is going to hinder it. Been there done that.
However, self appraisal is important in your personal life as much as in your professional/educational life.
If someone is unhealthy in some dynamic, you know them, and you care about them, I don't think it's bad to tactfully ask if everything is okay in life. |

Hello Glos,
Who ever said that ( I will look in a mo ) must be confused if you have quoted them correctly.
I am all for self empowerment but empowerment means taking control, setting your own goals, believing in yourself..... in a nutshell KNOWING yourself and LIKING yourself and WORKING with what you have and not being downtrodden by the negativity of others.
Now...... People who go....... oooooo im 'this' when they are really 'that' are simply deluded and heading for a fall.
If they take their 'THAT' and own it - then they are empowering themselves. |

I completely agree with you .
It’s the acceptance of oneself that they are ‘that’ and being 100% comfortable with it that is true empowerment in my opinion too.
To be delusional and to identify as something one isn’t is just plain daft, and does nothing to empower. If anything it sets one up for ridicule which is far from empowerment. |

I identify as a hot, young looking 47 year old... I am clearly only one of those things but I feel like the other 2 are mostly true, most of the time. So whether anyone else thinks I am deluded about that is their business, not mine. Other peoples opinions are not my concern as they make no difference to how I feel about myself |
