How much do you think your profile reflects your true personality? Do you have a ‘Fab side’ that no one else sees? Or is what you see, what you get? Would I recognise your fab side if we met outside a Fab situation. |

I think the profile usually reflects the personality, especially the ones who say very little - that says a lot about someone’s personality.
Forums are a better guide though; seeing how someone reacts to a subject is very telling. Most of my secret crushes come from what the write on here |

I changed my mind about this after meeting a couple of guys socially who were amazingly excellent at the written word, literally had me in stitches, both had brilliantly written profiles but in person without the time to think, nothing! Thought it might be me or they were shy so met them both again and again nothing! People are different - have a fwb who I've known for several years with not a lot on his profile at all but he's fantastic in person just not good on his profile!
When mine's not hidden I'm a cross between what I have written and what people have said about me in my veris |

I think it’s hard to show your true self through words. I’m not sure anyone would recognise me from my profile, and people in the real world certainly don’t know about this side of me.
Interesting thoughts OP, I shall ponder on this |

I’m funnier in my profile and online. Well at least I make myself laugh more online. I have more time for my aged brain to think of something that amuses me. My dark side is less obvious online although I’ve tended to be more self deprecating in Fab than I am face to face. I’m more nervous face-to-face at first than I am online. Other than that my views and opinions are the same and I’m as open and willing to express myself in both forms of communicating. I think I look better in my pictures than I do face-to-face. |

Mrs- probably not. In person I’m more than a bit awkward initially. But what I say on forums/messages is reflective of my personality. Our profile is meant to give the facts and a bit of personality but I find it hard to convey in profile while trying to make sure people get what we are about. Maybe I should rewrite it. |

From my experience of meeting guys online. I usually very intuitive by what he writes and doesn't write. I can usually judge him well from just even looking at photos. But on fab, people play on a different playing field. Seems most profiles are just cock pics so shows they only have one priority especially if they don't write anything in their introduction... |

I think my profile is a reflection of how I was feeling at the particular point in which I wrote it rather than an accurate depiction of my personality. Different sides of me appear at different times. I'm not sure I have a "fab" side as such; is that like a hidden sexual thing? Maybe actually. I doubt it would be recognised away from here, I'm quite cutesy and posh and people never equate those two things with having a libido that encourages not societally conventional fucking. |

My profile gives little away about who I actually am as a person, and it’s intentional. It’s written from the perspective of me, looking for you as a potential nsa match for a bit of kinky fun!
I would say my forum interaction is more representative of me as a person. I like those I like; I dislike those I don’t simple as. I hope for the main, most here find me approachable and friendly - even if I stick my head above the parapet at time
In real life - I’m an outgoing, bubbly if slightly crazy posh bird with a penchant for sex with hot men in suits ( removed of course) |

No profile will truly reflect anyone, people are always going to omit certain bits, photos will be cherry picked for beauty and sex or fun, basically people show only the parts they truly want you to see but life isn’t really like that
The only way to really get to know the person is in person with time and conversation |

Yeah, the grouchy, impatient, selfish and other of my more undesirable characteristics, some of which are alluded to in my profile text, that’s my dark side. That doesn’t appear on here very often. Maybe a couple of people have encountered it in 9.5 years on here. That’s why it’s my dark side.- its hidden from view except to people close to me or have been unfortunate enough to trigger it. |

Of course it’s an integral part of our personality but for some it’s more obvious than others. On Fab my dark side is not particularly noticeable except on the few occasions when the veneer has cracked |

I would say our profile is geared towards what we are looking for meets-wise, whereas on the forums you will get a much better idea of who we are all round So yes, I suppose we are portraying our secret liberal sexual side with our profile, which you wouldn't see in person.

Single profiles are pretty accurate.
B - doesn't stop talking
P - approach with caution
This profile is pretty accurate about us as a couple. There are many sides to us, which I think also shows through our pics and forum ramblings.
But no, you're never gonna get the full version of someone through their profile unless they're the kind of person who really does "switch it on" for their fab experience and becomes a real alter-ego kinda thing.

Our profile doesn't convey our personality at all, it's just about what we want. I would say that our old singles profiles were more representative of us as people.
In terms of actual online presence though, yes it's a accurate representation of us as people. In person I tend to say "erm" a bit more and I'm probably more inclined to humour, as dry sarcasm doesn't read well but in general, what you see is me.

Lots of people on fab definitely get the wrong idea about me based on status updates, and insecurities I put across. I'm very honest and authentic, and will always be myself but some people just peg me as a complainer and you serious. They don't get where I'm coming from in my profile
People who've met me in person seem to view me as really friendly and I think fun. I've been called funny and humorous by people who kbow me
On the flipside there are people who get what I'm trying to say in my profile and say i seem really down to earth and lovely, but i do get a lot of stick.
At the end of the day I know I'm a nice person or at least try to be. The opinion you hold of yourself is more important than the one of strangers who've never met you. |

Oh yes there are many who enjoy introspection and I agree it is a more reflective period on the forum. My personal opinion (and I stress that's all it is) is that the reflection would be better if it was outward rather than inward facing. |

I also think that with events like socials/clubs etc, people hear what people say about others who seem to get on in the forum setting. When you hear gossip and blatant slagging off of other people who seemingly get on it must make people question what others REALLY think of them, rather than for show on an open forum.

I agree, I also think that this happens in reverse a lot too; people don't get on on the forums or hear gossip and bitching which they buy into. Then when they actually meet in person they find out what a decent person they are.
That also makes people wonder what the outward impression is too.

I mean reflection on how to make the forum a more inclusive place that's a positive experience for everyone. Reflection on how ones forum persona affects other people. That sort of thing.
Of course forums reflect the people that use them. I understand that very well and as I said this is only my personal opinion and a contribution to the discussion. |

Well we’ve also got a thread running getting feedback on how others perceive us. That’s about how we come across in the forum and our impact on them. So I think that is quite balanced. But your idea about what would make the forum a more positive experience for those that use them, sounds like a good idea for a thread. |

I'm definitely very me on here and my profile/forum posts are a true reflection of who I am. I'm not as flirty and open about sex in real life, but it's much easier to be like that on here since it's a swinging website. |

I'm interested to know if people would genuinely seek to change themselves based on how others perceive them based on their contributions to an internet forum. I'm not asking this in an aggressive or argumentative way more seeking to understand. |

I'm interested to know if people would genuinely seek to change themselves based on how others perceive them based on their contributions to an internet forum. I'm not asking this in an aggressive or argumentative way more seeking to understand." yes I would change for the lady of your couple.......... "No idea that's for others to decide.
There's an awful lot of introspection and wondering what people think about each other going on at the moment. I don't know why
There are quite a few forum users that enjoy introspection? perhaps a more reflective period on the forum?
Whatever the reason I think it’s a good thing
Oh yes there are many who enjoy introspection and I agree it is a more reflective period on the forum. My personal opinion (and I stress that's all it is) is that the reflection would be better if it was outward rather than inward facing.
In what way? I'm curious as to what you mean by outward reflection.

Tbh I do have a kind of sorry not sorry attitude about what I post on my profile as it is that, mine! But having said that, I had personal pics with my long term partner that were unprotected, which opened the door to the judging messages and also the uninvited bareback derogatory comments! The said pics are now private. That’s just one example of how Iv been aware of how something I post is perceived. |

Ok, I understand. Has it changed how you are in other areas of your life? I'm beginning to see how it might be useful in making people more self aware or aware of self destructive thinking. |

Less so, because the behaviour was more Fab specific. It was a unnecessary habit I’d got into on here and on reflection I felt I needed to address it.

All the men i’ve met have very short profiles, no indication of their humour at all. They’ve all (except for one) been funny. They’ve also been very chatty and outgoing. Which again didn’t show in their profile.
My profile tends to fluctuate between long winded and short (ish) depending on my mood. In person i’m exceedingly dry humoured and very tongue in cheek. But very, very shy. I struggle socially.
But i am full of charm and loveliness. Which i don’t think comes across on my profile...
