Anyone else think there should be a button to turn off winks?

We think the wink system is pure lazyness on someone's part to not even try to write a message

Yeah totally, blokes should have to keep writing messages so they can be ignored and deleted.

A lot of women use the wink function, who otherwise probably wouldn’t make contact.

I don't mind them. See them as an ice breaker for some. If sent one and receive one beck will then message as will stand a better chance of reply. I both message and wink. Each to they're own but don't mind them at all.

Agree there should be a filter turn them on or off. However I don't mind them prefer over 'fancy a fuk' or 'u meetin' etc...

With a wink, the delete or ignoring options don't feel too harsh then.

I prefer winks to randon messages ... I check out the profile and wink back if I want to chat! Practical and time saving much better than a message for me

It can be hard writing a considered message every time which is bespoke to every user only to see it stay unread as you're one of thousands.

I wink but think of it in the real world where you catch someone's eye, and just smile or say hi on the first met, they smile or say hi back and you then you stay a conversation.

A wink to me is never a "meet me" lazy effort, but just "Hey I'm here, what do you think? Fancy a chat?"

I think this is a tad harsh....if you're really offended by a wink just ignore it. I often use a wink just to acknowledge a profile I think is good, I may not want to chat or play with the person/s but it still shows an appreciation for the effort they've put in.

Sometimes I send a wink just because I think the profile is cute even if they’re not our type or whatever. Or I’ll send one if I’m interested but not sure if we’re their cup of tea so don’t want to pester them with a message.

Funny cos there’s always loads of complaints about unsolicited messages in here and yet if you take away the wink facility how will you ever communicate with potential matches?

They work both ways, they save time because if you like what you see from the winking person then you wink back but other people take it as lazyness of not being able to compose a message. I like them

so a got spends 10 minutes writing s message and that gets deleted, so no point in that I’ll try a wink that gets deleted so it’s commonly known as a ‘catch 22’ or ‘in a quandary’

Most ladies I guess will delete them as they have enough mail to wade through that they certainly won't look at winks too!

How you judge them is down to the individual person. Some see it as laziness, some as a hint of hello. If it works and connection is made, cool, if not, ah well. Too many people read motives into this site sometimes and take things like this personally.

here and there

I prefer to use winks just to show interest, if you get a wink back then you can message, to write a message thats worth reading takes a little while and for them to not be read or replied to its alot of time wasted, dont get me wrong i always try to send a message but a wink is an easy way to get the jist of if the person is interested..

However looking at alot of these messages winks get ignored or deleted also so what else is a guy meant to do haha!

Given that you have to actively click something to see your winks, why don't you just not click? How would switching them off help you.

We don't mind winks. They aren't pushy and they are a damn site better than a badly-worded message as far as we're concerned.

We like winks. They are a good indicator of interest. Get a wink, check the profile, if you like it wink back. It’s a good sign of interest without having that awkward first message not knowing if the mutual interest is there.

I barely use winks, if I do, its because the person I`m winking has age restricted me out by 1 or 2 years, preventing me messaging them directly, so I wink in the vain hope they might look at me & decide they can be a bit flexible..

But as I say, rare, only done that a couple of times in the last year.

We like the wink as from a couple who aren't fully confident it's a way to see whether the other couple/person would be interested

If I like someone but don't think I'll have an opportunity to meet them or just feel like they'd never be interested I'll wink at them. It's just like a thumbs up.

We like winks but only if they fit our profile wants. Still get loads from couples & when we check their profiles nowhere does it say the lady meets alone.

So guess its the man looking & not reading then.

Rarely get responses back from ones we send.
