Spurs here so looking forward to this season and seeing how our new boys kick on!

Can't see too many upsets on the opening weekend, Man U Chelsea will most likely be tight, 1 goal either way, Gooners, City, Liverpool and Spurs all got winnable games on paper....thank fuck the season's back! COYS!

Liverpool here.

I think we will see a surprise package grab a top 4 spot this year. Pool, city, spuds pretty much nailed on for 3 places but 4th spot I don't see going to man utd, Chelsea or arsenal.

Be great if we could have just the one thread for the prem or even better, the whole football league season. Even if it grows to 20 pages long.

I tried last season but we kept having a fresh one just for the pre every week.

Would be good to keep an eye on fortunes, the ups and downs but the ability to go back months later to the start and see how it pans out.

I'm a Cardiff fan so the prem alone do sent appeal to me.

As a bizzare shout to set the discussion going.

I'm having Newcastle to turn Arsenal over.

Not that I'm a fan of either cos I'll be watching Middlesbrough throw away the play off places again this season.

Think the first games for everyone are going to be a bit hit & miss.

With all the new signings & lots of youth players coming through. It's almost a dummy run to see how well (or not), each new/old players play as a team.

Going to be interesting for sure

I hope Cardiff can have a competitive season this season rather than last year's.

I don't care if we get promoted I just don't want to get relegated.

Beat Swansea twice. Beat Bristol twice.

Warnock leaves at the end not Christmas (more importantly, on his terms).

Not bothered about a cup run but just a competitive season rather than one you loose 4 out of 5 games

There and to the left a bit

I think City/Liverpool will without a doubt be up there again.

My beloved Spurs have bought well and can hopefully kick on from last season - Dybala or someone similar would have been just that bit extra we need though - still think we'll be top 4 again, and it's about time we got a cup in the bag but that often comes down to luck of the draw etc.

Arsenal have bought well and think with Emery having had a year to settle in we may well see them top 4 too.

Chelsea may struggle with no new players in and Frank stepping up.

Utd it's anyone's guess but should still be top 5.

Everton and possibly Wolves will be up amongst it but outside top 4.

Of the teams that have come up, Villa are the most likely to do well and have made some good signings.

Fancy Burnley to come back strong again too.

Nice win against Villa tomorrow will do me though

Yes, and with the distraction of European football on top, it might not be the smoothest of sailing for you this year.

We (Leicester) struggled massively in the league during our recent CL season, it's not easy to fight on multiple fronts when you have a relatively small squad.

Those games will define your season not, Liverpool or Man City away for eg.

Yes. Defensively Liverpool looked ropey and were particularly vulnerable down their right. Wijnaldum was poor. Arnold often out of position and Gomez was poorly positioned frequently.

I suppose it's already a good omen then. Playing poorly to some degree and still winning at ease.

It's already down to Man City already to follow suit

Yeah definitely. If we can give a good account of ourselves against the Top 6 and sneak some unexpected points against the top half of the table while getting six points against the lower teams then we will stay up.

This. Enjoy the games against the big boys, and regard anything you get against them as massive bonus. It's your own mini-league you have to aim to do well in, they are the pressure games

Don't forget Perez has gone too.....

I pulled 7 points in my FFL team from last night's game.

Should have checked the fixture list, I could have put a few more reds in for the first game and got off to a belter....

. Neil Warnock has an absolutely amazing record as a manager , as can be seen with his record of promotions , many ( if not all ) have been achieved with him not being able to " splash the cash " . Brilliant managerial record

Never have I seen, multiple times, one manager regularly applaud cynical, nasty play, causing injury, to opponents, as he has.

During his time with different teams, he has always advocated fouling.

Even post match, he has cynically stated “that’s just how football is”, yet, whinges like a baby with colic, if the same happens to his player.

Hence, massive bell end and self gratified...

Unfortunately it’s a contact sport. Some people just don’t get that. Can be hard in a tackle as long as it’s fair. Far too many pussys in footy these days.

So you do have an interest in football after all. Great. More the merrier.

2 Seasons ago he dropped Joe Bennett for that foul in the Fa Cup vs Man City/Sane. After he served his ban, Bennett was not allowed back in the team. Little did we know the players Dad had recently passed away. Warnock didn't accept the excuse. He called it a stupid, costly foul and one that injured an opponent.

Same year he sent Omar Bogle out on loan for getting a stupid red card after coming on as a late sub vs our rivals, a game we lost.

These two examples tells me you might struggle to find examples of when he's encouraged his players to go out and injure opponents seeing as it's a complete contradiction.

Warnock is part of the last of a breed of old school English managers.

First thing he did here was visit all the valley working men clubs to meet the fans. He takes the players on pre season to Cornwall where he's lived for a while.

He says it as he sees it. He doesn't have an ego. That's Wegner and Mouriniho covered. Many pundits agreed with him last season in that the decisions just didn't go our way on many occasions.

He does at times come across as a brat. We all saw him when he refused to shake Nuno Gomez hand after the Wolves game 2 seasons ago. Within minutes he had apologised to him and made sure no harm was done.

As mentioned he's achieved enough but if it looks like we won't get promoted during Christmas he's going to quit. Either way, it's his last season in football.

I've seen him agree so many times when asked if a red card for us was justified. He's an honest bloke with his heart on his sleeve. That's a quality I like in someone. It strikes a balance somewhat with some of the other moans he has had though. It often seems as if the world is against him.

It's fair to say that unless he's been at your club you probably think he's a Colin.

He did quit football you know. He was home helping his wife recover from cancer surgery when she told him to get a job. It was between us and Forest. Similar clubs. Both struggling, both with fans arguing with each other, he sorted that out.

He came here and put the club back together again and when we were supposed to be in a relegation battle, we went up in 2nd place.

So, seeing as you have been out of touch with the game for a while I hope you see him through a different light and can make your own mind up now.

If you read the thread you will see where the OP says it's okay to talk ALL football in here, so that's the idea. It's just a misleading headline that's all. It's not just about The Prem.

Anyway, thanks for coming back and I hope you contribute further in a positive manner . They have some great deals in Sainsbury's

We were at that game, where he refused to shake hands.

In my, very humble opinion, as a Wolves fan, Nuno was out of order. Celebrating is all well and good, but, he could have shaken hands first.

Over last few years, I have watched more Welsh Prem games, than other leagues.

Wolves won the league that night and we blew it. Hence he let his frustrations get the better of him. At the time I blamed Warnock more than Nuno but I was did have my head in my hands at the time.

I hope these new young managers, Gerrard, Lampard, Giggs, Sol Campbell and so on turn out like Warnock, Fergie, Keegan, Daglish, Graham Taylor and Bobby Robson (for example).

No. They will all be ‘educated’ in the ‘proper’ ways to act/respond. Any emotions they harbour, will be rapidly eradicated.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, football is trying, too hard I believe, to reverse trends.

Ah well, the ‘beautiful game’, eh?

The most successful sport in the world that keeps going from strength to strength and evolving itself. Bringing new technology into it all the time. You could say the opposite of reverse in fact. It's moving forward bit by bit.

Yet we are continually told it's not as good as rugby.

Nothing wrong with like either, neither or both.

They fell over a bit easy. Grealish is a talented lad but he's like a piece of paper and it seems to have spread through the team.

Bit harsh on Villa to call them poor. I thought Spurs were wasteful but the scoreline was fair.

The youngsters are going to get a lot of game time, they're young, they'll fuck up now and again.

I just hope Abramovitch has the strength/patience to play the long game.

Otherwise it's manager merry go round time again.

Surely he knows that not being able to buy anyone he HAS to stick with what he's got and see it through.

And whoever got Chelsea into this transfer ban mess has got to be sacked, surely?

. I agree the youngsters will mess up now and again and Frank Lampard must be given more time than previous Chelsea managers because of the transfer situation.Roman is not known for his patience but then again Frank is the first English manager he had employed so maybe he is changing.Since Roman has been in charge Chelsea have won 7 FA youth cups and runners up twice I do think if previous generations had been allowed to develop Chelsea would have saved a fortune in buying players but not sure how successful they would have been.

Man City v Spurs

Sun 18th Aug

Sheff Utd v Palace

Chelsea v Leicester

Mon 19th Aug

Wolves v Man Utd

Any comments on this weekends PL or FL matches?

After the Hammers thrashing by City last week I expect us to get some sort of result at Brighton...A draw at very least...

Man City against Spurs should be good on Sat evening and Wolves versus Utd on Monday night...

"

. Last season Wolves were a bit of a bogey side for us as gave all of the big 6 a hard time so it will be a test for Ole and the boys if we can win I believe it should give us some confidence for the bigger tests to come

Ole has said that Alexis Sanchez is still part of Man Utd's squad and hasn't been dropped to the reserves...

Is that a good thing?...will he finally start justifying those obscene wages he earns?....

. Rashford & Martial sharing left wing and centre forward duties could work out ok for us as it did against Chelsea. If however they both start to drift into the centre forward position it will become harder to stretch teams.Ole then had a big call to make does he bring back Sanchez and hopefully he rediscover the form he showed at Arsenal or give Greenwood or Chong a go on the left wing.Me personally its between Rashford , Greenwood , Chong for the left wing with Martial staying at centre forward.Use Sanchez in the Europa Leauge If he is exceptional in that then consider him for a Premier League start on the left wing.

Which side does Dan James play on?

. Daniel James strongest position at Swansea was right wing and I would play him there ahead of Lingard

Liverpool aren't having much luck with their keepers, first Allison and now Adrian is out after a freak injury so the 3rd choice who i hear is Andy Lonergan will make his debut against Southampton!

If we play like we did on Tuesday for the rest of the season we'll be ok.

We may not win a lot, but top 6 in a transitional year, with our best player gone, no new players coming in and a manager with no PL management experience would be a success IMHO.

He may be inexperienced but Frank's played under some of the best in the business and won just about everything at club level.

He must have learnt something....

Yeah, don't ask John Terry to keep an eye out for your wife while you're away

Unless you're into that kind of thing.

I've been saying since we signed him, they knew Hazard was going, that's why they did the deal for Pulisic.

Not a ready made made replacement (who could be) but he's young, talented and similar in style.

He did well pre-season, played well against Liverpool and was a tad unlucky with his goal.

One to watch I think.

I'm going to try and shoehorn him into my TFF team.

Is Luiz playing? I hope so, Burnley are guaranteed a goal or two if he is.

Think I'll switch over from the cricket to watch it, there's only so much Steve Smith you can take!

I'm happy with the Hammers point at Brighton today.....

VAR saved both us and Tottenham today although i thought they were lucky to come away with a draw as City were the better team....

We were lucky, two chances and we took them. City definitely the better team on the day, but sometimes you just have to dig in

Will be testing for Liverpool. I was surprised they didn’t strengthen their team this summer, a few injuries in key areas and they may struggle

City were poor with their choice of shots and passing at moments. That's not going to happen again this season

VAR is getting to be a bit of a joke, it's down to the third ref to call these moments, whereas I think it should be up to the ref on the pitch to refer to VAR.

That the third ref didn't call the penalty on the pull down on Laporte in the first half, but then to call the handball (brushing of ball on a held arm) is quite ridiculous

Agree it should be a penalty, why it wasn’t we will never no. Yes Lamela has his arms around him but that is not what took them down. It was a shove by alderweld into lamela ‘s back that sent them over. For me still a penalty

VAR is just going to become more of a joke as the season goes on, with the way it's being implemented

It should be there to assist the ref in confirming a decision. Not to find the slightest of unseen infractions that would normally have no impact in a game

We did, we dominated the entire second half, and should have scored more than one. However, we could have easily been 3 down at half time, so a draw probably a fair result.
