Hollywood, as a whole, have zero imagination.

There are literally thousands, of original books, that would make amazing films. Yet, all they can seem to do is remakes, and sequels.

I rarely watch anything anymore. Too over-sexualised, gory or brutal.

Disney remaking old toons into life action shows they’ve really hit rock bottom when it comes to originality, i agree with you, the books out there would make some great movies so why they hell are they not tapping in to that.

In a way I’m glad they aren’t remaking some of my favourite books, it’s rare that a film based on a book is as good for me.

I like films though, doesn’t have to be one or the other. Room for brain-off films and those that make you think and leave you wanting answers.

Runny those with accountants mindsets, trying to see safe returns, thus the sequels, re-makes ad nauseum. We've had multiple home alone films, when one was probably enough.

If you believe most Hollywood films, the Americans won the war (ww2) they saved the worlds from disasters, they even have superheroes...

I know not all are like this, but I would love to see more home grown films

What else would you expect? This is capitalism as it's meant to be.

This is exactly why we are getting remakes and reboots by the dozen instead of fresh new films.

Holywood just like the rest of the world has been hit by the financial crisis and as you pointed out they want safe returns.

It’s the reason why you see several studios advertised at the beginning of every film these days rather than just the one in the past, they are sharing the risk so if a film bombs they don’t end up bankrupt.

It’s a shame as i love to see original films like we used to.

It is this, more than the lack of imagination.

Original movies are a risk, in fact there are plenty of "original" movies being released quite often but on mass people don't go to see them (even the good ones).

Books and video games are amazing places to get "original content" they have much better plots and storylines than movies do, but studio interference, with their checklist of do and don't, water down what could be great.

On top of that, original is very hard to truely do because it has all been done before. It is very difficult to come up with a movie that appeals enough to make money that is not just a variation on what has been done already.

I've said it in a similar thread before, if you can come up with a "story" that will appeal to movie goers, I can probably find a movie, book, or TV show that has already been done before.

All part of the dumbing down agenda. The more people are watching lycra clad 'superheroes' spout one-liners in endless re-hashes, the more distracted they are, and the less they are likely to ask the bigger questions. American movie culture is run and distributed by those who would destroy us. Ultimately you don;t have to play the game and buy the ticket.
