When I was fighting it was easy...train heavy and fight light.

Now jocko willink and his timex watch on Instagram is what motivates me

Why does he motivate you?"

He uploads a photo of his watch every morning, he starts his day at like 4-4:30. I find him inspiring

My sil nags at me. That's an effective motivator. She's on holiday right now though so it's disappeared.

I think I need to change my mindset to see it as not something I need to be motivated to do but something I want to do.

I stand naked in front of a full length mirror. It’s f I’m not happy with the view, it spurs me on at the gym. I’m usually not happy

Best motivation / motivator I ever had to perform at the gym was a young female PT who used to wear tight lycra to make me work out

Does take some doing even at our age, but we keep at it even when really cannot be bothered to train . But what keeps us motivated is what could happen if we stop training all that hard work waisted

We all sound pretty similar then. Mainly its that we want to look better naked!

Here's an idea, we'll all lick a date, train, then meet up at the end, possibly naked. Motivation enough?

It’s hard to stay motivated to keep avoiding the gym, but I manage to pull it off. If I’m tempted to go to the gym I remind myself that it’s only fleeting and the feeling will pass.

Cut to 10 minutes later and I’m kicking back on the sofa, watching a box set of Sex in the City and tucking into a big bag of Doritos.

I pay my PT a not unreasonable sum of money a month for 2 sessions a week and I have a standing run at 6am in the diary with my bestie once a week. Then I parkrun with my husband on a Saturday. So I only need to find self motivation for one run a week

It's a hobby and the results speak for themselves. I started taking it very seriously as injury recovery/ prevention, and discovered I really love lifting weights and am good at it. It appeals to the optimiser in me. Is my form spot on? Can I lift just a little bit more? Etc.

It's also done wonders for my health, not just in terms of physique.

To get back into competitive paintball.

Played on the weekend and got told I was to aggressive and competitive (after the first game) and had a bit of an epiphany.

It's what I want.

Now just need to heal, practice and get into the gym to improve standard health and fitness.

Oh and find the cash to do it.

At 48 it's going to be hard, but it is something to aim for.

Ooh. Set goals. Not weight goals. Performance goals. Ones you can see yourself chipping towards and getting to in the medium term.

Tbh i feel guilty if i dont go now. It was a chore to go then a switch flicked.. i think it was when i started seeing progress and getting noticed that my body was changing.

Best advice id give is stay off the scales, build it into your daily routine ( i sold my xbox and cancelled sky- i had no temptations to rush home for that way) keep a log of weights or cardio time/miles ect and set yourself challenges. Last but not least get Spotify or similar and make some decent play lists to get you in the mood... stick it on on the way to the gym to get you in the mood... prodigy works! Have fun

Luckily for me I am out the other side of it at the weight I wanted to get to and body shape.

My motivation was the lady I see is a fitness model and used to compete and all I had to do was look at her the first time we had sex and was just stunned at the body. 8 months later still seeing her and my stamina for sex is easy now at the level we fuck where the first time is was fucked lol.

I had quite a health scare a few years ago. I was lucky in that it was a warning before any serious damage happened, but conscious if I don’t stay ahead of it, it may bite me again ..... that’s my motivation.

It took a while, but I found an activity I loved and have stuck with for over 3 years, so now live cycling and spinning ... and a bit of Gym time.

It works for me

As part of my mission to drop 4 stone I've given up crap food and i've just been to my first clubbercise class. Not sure I loved it as I felt very uncoordinated. However weightloss is now my motivation so I've signed up to 3 classes a week going forward and I'm really trying to stick to the clean eating and no crap or comfort food

Sometimes I think a switch flicks in your head and you just do it . I never thought I would and maybe in another 3 weeks I'll fall off the wagon.

However there was no point in trying until that switch flicked

I used to hate going gym before my knee operation as I would rather just run distances of 6-12 miles but as I can no longer run I ise the gym as part my physio rehab and it’s continued as weight loss and strengthening

I still have times I think why am I here but the ability to walk and work etc soon drags me back to the gym

The truth is this, I had one of those body composition analyzers done 4 months ago. My metabolic age was 16 years younger than my actual age. My aim and mission is to get this figure over 20 years this year. I'm reaching for the stars and nothings going to stop me now
