Some people just seem to get it all without a decent job, how? Is it down to amazing money management or are they secretly millionaires or what? You see some people working crappy jobs but in brand new cars at 20/30,000 just makes my mind boggle, I’m working hard and end up with like £300 to myself a month if I’m lucky haha who’s in the same boat? Or can one of you guys let us other guys know how you bloody manage it |

"They've figured out how to make other people do the work for them, and pay them less to do it in the process.
Capitalism 101"
Is that always the case though... guys around 20/25 years old working in supermarkets, packhouses, etc would they really bother if they was so comfortable |

They may be in a shitty job according to your opinion but they also may be on a high wage.
Some may say I have a job they wouldn't do not for anything. Yet if short staffed, I get offered bonuses. One time recently I earnt nearly £300 for one 12hr shift.
Bank holidays are time and half. Xmas eve , Xmas day, boxing day, new years eve and new years day are 3 times my hourly wage.
You don't need to be working some amazing, exciting, highly skilled and powerful job to earn a decent wage. |

Not saying shit jobs but average ones, they seem to have so much for what they most likely earn, I get a decent wage well above the average, but I just couldn’t imagine being so comfortable to be able to buy such a car, and the latest clothes etc, maybe I need some financial advice |

Yes if the wage was right!
Look at it from a different light. They're being paid a decent wage just to work in a warehouse. Easy work for good money! |

Maybe they have two jobs, inherited money, have huge loans, have partners with well paid jobs, work loads of overtime, live at home with their parents and pay no housekeeping or any one of a number of different explanations |

I have to be. I have kids and I private rent. I can't be silly with money because my kids and the roof over our heads would suffer. They come first.
The only indulgent I have is my car loan. I couldn't afford to keep paying out repairs etc on older cheaper cars. So I saved a healthy deposit and took out a car loan. My new car is 18 mths old. I have the top of the range version of it. So I think back in 2017 it cost around 20k??
Insurance is cheaper on this new car too. So to run, I'm actually saving money by buying this newer car. Got to think long term!
I've never been one to splash out on holidays or designer clothes etc.
Can I ask if you're in debt? |

I’m not in debt, I’m lucky enough to not have to be renting I have a mortgage, along with all other bills it adds up well, I have a 10 year old car with the occasional repairs but it’s not bad to run, I never know wether to try solidly saving the £300 per month that I have spare and have next to no luxuries or just make the most of my days or time out of work usually I spend it on absolute rubbish that’s un needed but I’m in a rut of doing that if that makes sense |

Lad at work ... 25, nice looking, well turned out, attractive girlfriend, swans round in an Audi RS3... another one without a pot to piss in, beside himself with anxiety over not making ends meet
From the outside looking in, he has it made
Don't fall into the same trap as my two examples
Aspire by all means, but do it in your own time in a way that is
sustainable
Be someone who has it made, as opposed to being someone who LOOKS like they have it made |

Can you make do by saving that £300 for a year? Use the money to buy the newer car you would like?
If not, I would still recommend you saving your £300. Remember you do not need luxuries! You do not need designer! |

We look like we have it made to outsiders. We have two decent cars, nice clothes etc.
We know how and where to shop, aren't shy of using charity shops and buy salvage cars from reputable salvage dealers.
As a couple of you have said things aren't always what you think they are. |

Another friend example ...
25, OK job (circa 25k a year), lives out of town so cheaper rents, house shares, gets the bus to work despite being able to drive, loves designerwear but shops around, likes holidays but goes out of season, likes going on the piss but does it say once every 2 or 3 weeks
Sat on a bank account with knocking 30 grand in it
He is measured and sensible and doesn't care too much what people looking in see
He will have it made, but will do so quietly with no fuss or show |

I used to think a lot of my friends in my early 20's had it all whilst I was struggling, it later emerged many of them had actually been getting themselves in mountains of debt on various credit cards and loans. |

Lol. Ok how about opening up another bank account. Transfer your £300 per month upto a year. Ask the bank for a type of account whereas you can't withdraw money until a set date has passed. I'm sure banks still do them.
Or give your parents the new bank card to them for safe keeping. Only giving it back to you once you've reached your financial goal? |

Damn you’re good, I didn’t even know banks done that sort of thing haha, I’m living by what I earn but it’s literally leaving nothing for a car repair or whatever and I’m limping the car to payday or having to cut things out to do it, maybe save £250 for 4 consecutive months I’d imagine £1000 would cover most troubles with my car to put aside then go to the bank and ask about a £300 a month into a locked account or whatever it’s called so I worn my way off of it while saving |

Where are these jobs that still pay overtime?
Most employers these days (including my own) are cutting overtime down to zero and, where it is available, only pay single time for it or give time back in lieu |

Specific warehouses then
The guys in the warehouse where I work earn 18k a year for 42.5 hours Mon to Fri - and they must be FLT trained
Saturdays are now in their contracts at single time or the time back in lieu
The company has a zero overtime policy
I worked in logistics recruitment for almost two decades and slowly watched workers rights and perks being taken away slowly and steadily, one at a time
When we first put drivers into a site of a well known retailer, they were paid £8 / hour with time and a half after 8 hours, time and a half for Saturday and double for Sunday. Minimum shift 8 hours
A decade later £11 days / £12 nights flat rate, no overtime, no Sat or Sun rates. Minimum shift, 6 hours
I feel that the potential to earn serious money through overtime these days is very restricted by a lot of employers
That is my experience at least |

Work 2 jobs if you're struggling.
Romanian guy I worked with when I was 18 worked 2 full time jobs. He literally worked 16 hours a day and had more vigor than me. He was even smiling and happy working there.
So the I work hard enough and can't get by doesn't really sell. |

I'm not struggling
I'm at that stage in life where I can afford to slow down a bit professionally
I've dropped my salary by over a third in the last 18 months, through choice
It's now time for a bit of 'me time'
I've been lucky enough to earn decent money and be in the job market when overtime was readily available and paid at a premium
I just don't think it is as much of a reality for everyone these days as it is for some people
A second job may be useful for some, but again this is likely to be at single time
If you want something then unless you are very fortunate, you need to work for it
I'd just be very eager to see job ads promoting overtime at premium rates in this day and age when the market has shifted so much away from that being the norm
I'm guessing some of it may be regionally affected too - if there is a shortage of relevant labour, employers will obviously promote more attractive packages
Up here, there's no need to, warehouse/FLT workers (for example) are ten a penny |

Sorry OP
I've waffled on and maybe digressed your thread a bit
Sorry MS too
I may have come across as antagonistic. That wasn't intended. I guess my experience differs from yours, that's all |

"Where are these jobs that still pay overtime?
Most employers these days (including my own) are cutting overtime down to zero and, where it is available, only pay single time for it or give time back in lieu
Warehouses.
I guy I used to work with is a reach truck driver on call and got £1000 bonus for a week of work
Specific warehouses then
The guys in the warehouse where I work earn 18k a year for 42.5 hours Mon to Fri - and they must be FLT trained
That is my experience at least

Whatever the state is now, the reality always remained the same. You have to work hard for everything in life, so unless you were born into riches no one is going to be handing you a damn thing on a silver platter.

"They may be in a shitty job according to your opinion but they also may be on a high wage.
Not saying shit jobs but average ones, they seem to have so much for what they most likely earn, I get a decent wage well above the average, but I just couldn’t imagine being so comfortable to be able to buy such a car, and the latest clothes etc, maybe I need some financial advice "
Are you familiar with the concept of borrowing money and debt? |

It's not always a case of debt and finance.
People make sacrifices for their luxuries.
Even when I was on the bones of my arse I still had a lush car. I figured I didn't smoke, drink or have kids so why not.
Different ways of life don't mean debt

Exactly this. Too many on here assume every folk who have nice things are in debt, borrowing off others, living with mummy or have credit cards.
I don't. Only thing i have is a car loan. Wouldn't have that if I didn't have kids.
Only reason I went for a car loan was because my previous car would of cost too much money to repair and make road worthy.
I was quoted 1k to put my 2002 car back on the road. No way! So I took my 1k savings and used it as a deposit for a new car via a loan.
Thus saving me and kids money from having failed MOTs every year, repairs and over the top insurance cost.
Save and be careful with what money you do have OP. You'll get there, I promise ! |

"Some people just seem to get it all without a decent job, how? Is it down to amazing money management or are they secretly millionaires or what? You see some people working crappy jobs but in brand new cars at 20/30,000 just makes my mind boggle, I’m working hard and end up with like £300 to myself a month if I’m lucky haha who’s in the same boat? Or can one of you guys let us other guys know how you bloody manage it" inheritance maybe |
