"How do you keep the neighbour's cat from shitting in your garden? This is why I dislike cats and cat owners. You don't see my slinging my rottweiler's load on your lawn? So why is it acceptable for your animal to shit on mine????" Because you can control where your dog shits, cat owners can't. Get a cat repeller or plant lavender or lemon plants.

I know if you pee around your boundary you stand a chance of deterring foxes or badgers, would it be worth trying that?
"Doesn't the dog deter the cat at all? Was thinking the same! " Stays away from the back garden but the dog cant get to the front lawn so the cheeky shit takes advantage

"As a cat owner and lover to suggest something as cruel as extra strong chilli powder borders on abuse, not to mention the danger to the ops doggy. Try mothballs that is an old tried and tested method also string around the garden with foil strip's cats don't seem to like foil. Get a cat of you're own a male who will mark his territory. Please don't be cruel to the cat cats are our alien overlord's and you don't want to piss them off." My cats go crazy for foil, to them it's the best thing ever so I'm not with you there. Totally agree about them being our overlords though, bang on there

Whether you like cats, love them, or loathe them, they are an animal with personality and a soul like your dog. Please be kind, and please consider getting a cat from a rescue. They are very self sufficient, and will indeed mark their territory so another cat won't poo in your garden... However, being rude & insulting is not going to make the issue disappear. I am far from dumb. Cats have souls and personalities the same as every other animal. I have four, and there is only one of them that would even tolerate being put on a lead, and even he wouldn't allow himself to be pulled around on it. It takes an exceptional cat to use a lead. How about instead of making rude sweeping insults and moaning, you educate yourself on cat behaviour & dislikes and take steps accordingly.

"When my Old English Bull dog was in his prime a cat used to taunt him by sitting on top of the fence. Cats absolutely rule the roost. However my dog figured out if he hurled his 9 stone against the fence it would catapult the cat a considerable distance. The cat then switched his taunting to the rather more solid structure of the barn. " That is actually quite funny, and I'm a cat owner

How about instead of making rude sweeping insults and moaning, you educate yourself on cat behaviour & dislikes and take steps accordingly. " I'm also a lifelong cat owner and totally agree with all you wrote Contrary to 'popular' belief amongst some, not *all* cat owners are dumb, selfish or oblivious to the fact that not everyone is a fan of cats. Some of us are considerate neighbours and do all we can to minimise nuisance and maintain good neighbourly relations. For me, this has meant *talking* to my neighbours - to make them aware of my concern - checking if they've encountered any mess, offering to clear their garden borders if required (though as I can't identify *my* cats' poo, it could be other animals' I'm picking up), reassuring them that shouting and/or spraying water to deter them is fine, and offering to buy commercial deterrents. There does seem to be a particular form of spite reserved for cats and their owners which I don't fully understand. You could just as easily point to irresponsible dog owners (not ALL dog owners obviously) who allow their animals to poo in people's open front gardens (and that's on the end of a lead!), or in public parks where kids play, without picking it up. Of course, badly trained and/or dogs brutalised by scummy owners do much much worse than that and whilst most people would rightly be horrified, overall ... it feels as though cat owners, generally speaking, still get it in the neck more often than that type of dog owner does. Point is, if you *see* particular cats using your garden as a loo and you know who their owners are, just *speak* to them. What do you have to lose? They might be willing to employ litter trays for example which could solve the issue, and/or provide a sand or earth box in their own garden. If they're like me, they'd apologise profusely which might help you feel a bit better. If you don't know who they belong to then there are plenty of humane deterrents you can use. Some have already been mentioned, but if you have largish areas of bare earth you can also put cats off by covering these with piles of woody twigs, or holly sprigs, which they're unlikely to dig in.
"Feed it. Cat's generally don't go near where they eat, hence their annoying habit of using other peoples gardens. " . d'ya' know I like your suggestion..turn the cat into a friend it'll poo elsewhere...I also hope 'Boris ' saved them kippers for the downing Street cat
"We use a pest off jet water sprayer from Am. Only costs £18. It attaches to a hosepipe and has a motion sensor that triggers a squirt of water when a cat or fox crosses in front. Our garden was like a cat loo last year and since last July when we fitted the spray we hadn't had one poo. The cats have learnt to go around our garden instead of through it. We move it around the garden so they don't know when it's going to get them. Doesn't hurt them and doesn't use chemicals so all good. It also gets us when we forget it's on!" Great idea, harmless but sound effective.

If one of my neighbours came to me politely and told me my cats were a problem I would happily pay for a non-cruel fix such as these. If they came to me with a bad attitude and called me dumb my response would be very, very different...

"Cats roam......mine do, I have 3 and they poop in my garden and where ever they like (other gardens).....if you don't want em in your garden take measures to prevent it .......simples " I noticed my boyfriends dog likes to roam when i let her out on the front, luckily for me she likes to go for a dump in next doors garden so i leave it there. She seems to naturally enjoy roaming and sees their garden as a toilet for some reason, i let the dog act on her 'natural instincts'.
"Next door has about 8 cats and they were crapping all over my back garden, i planted 4 leylandii next to the fence between our properties and they are about 9 ft tall now. There's no height limit to how tall you can grow a hedge if you use these tress btw. I also got some cheap bushes from poundland which grew really fast before the trees got tall, this helped too. Buddleia grow quick and wide also, and are good for the environment as they attract bees and butterflies (and moths)." Good luck with the consequences of your leylandi in a few years time. When they’re 50 feet tall, cover your garden with shade and suck up all the moisture so that nothing, not even grass, grows. Oh and when you get fed up and want to get rid of them you’ll find that the cost is prohibitively high, like our new neighbours have found. They have inherited 4 of the damn things at the end of the garden. Nothing grows at the end of their garden or ours (fortunately our chickens live in that corner of our garden so not too much of an issue for us). They have had 7 tree surgeons come and look at them so far, 4 of them said they won’t touch them as it’s too dangerous to cut them down due to proximity to other houses. The others have quoted prices between 10-25k to get rid!
"I bought a realistic lion costume from China and I sit in my garden all night long. I collect my poop from the toilet and when a cat comes by I roar and throw a little turd at them. I've tried loads of methods but I would give this one an 8 out of 10 (I'm leaving 2 points out as it gets chilly and lonely at night in the garden and I feel kinda mean) but it's great to establish dominance. " Also a bit tricky if you get the squits after a hot curry or an upset stomach though.
