"A ‘friend’ of mine gets shooty bum and this had me thinking is there a scientific reason ‘they’ get this or should I tell them to stop sticking sporadic objects up his ass?"
(gets popcorn, coz I haven't a clue what that is, & I cant be arsed to google it..) |

"Proctalgia fugax? I get it at night some times and it lasts for between 10 mins and half an hour.
Not that bad, more levator ani (now that I’ve properly researched via the t’internet)"
Yeah, I can go for a year or so sometimes without having any pain, but then it just attacks without any warning |

I always find it funny how people try to escape shooty bum. Standing up doesn't remove the screwdriver you feel you've been impailed on.... the screwdriver isn't real and neither are the bullets you're being shot with

"I learn something new everyday
Can’t the docs help you with it, stop it happening? Sounds awful "
It’s a very common thing and isn’t something to be concerned about. You do look a bit of a tit though when you jump up 3 feet in the air when it catches you |

It does have a name, screwdriver man shooty bum

I imagine that a screwdriver rammed up your arse is pretty close to how it feels.
I tend to get it in the day. I remember it happening in Tesco once, it's like your crippled and can't move, stuck in the middle of the aisle whimpering in pain. Get some weird fucking looks |

I had it walking to my car from work on Friday, it’s like your own body sucking your arsehole up into your stomach. Luckily the place was empty when I left otherwise everyone would of said ‘look at Mr Mystique- he’s got shooty bum again’ |

I just try and be still for a bit and wince it out.
It might help to have a crossword and pen handy and twist that wince into a look of puzzlement to try and disguise it. |

OP
Thank you for this thread.
I suffer from IBS, getting strange abdominal pains is par for the course.
Tests a few years ago, showed up food intolerances, which since removing or reducing in my diet pretty much keeps my IBS in check.
But this shooty pain, I still get, sometimes to the extent it has floored me, had me curled up & sobbing.
My gp has never given me a name or explanation for it, just said it was part of my IBS.
Having read the thread, and googled stuff, then I now finally have an answer! |

Glad to be of help. The threads opening paragraph was a lighthearted attempt to make awareness of this condition. It is totally normal by the looks of things but is uncomfortable in the same breath. |

"I’ve just had it again "
You need your bum checked mate, incase the invisible man is still up there lol
I get it once in a while too, I've always thought it was triggered by sitting on a cold surface for a spell but that might just be coincidence. |

It is quite common. You do look a bit of a tit though when you’re walking down the road and you get a red hot poker stuck up yer ass |

"Just had it again. Should I be worried?
It's been 31 weeks so no. Most likely it's a just touch of Farmer Giles."
I had a shootybbum pain a couple of months ago. Funnily enough it turns out it was an abscess that became infected and the right side of my ass swelled up like an avacado. |

proctalgia fugax – a condition that causes episodes of sudden, severe anal pain that last for a few minutes at a time; medicine that relaxes the muscles in the pelvis may help.
Ace said this ages ago. |
