"Has anyone got any tips on how to get rid of a migraine, Iv tried the usual suspects, paracetamol / ibruphen / co codamol and naproxen "
I've spent most of my life with migraines. Sleep, dark room and try a triptan from the dr. Ask about getting the ones that dissolve under your tongue.
If its lasting over 2 days you should see a dr just to be safe xxx |

Try taking medication with a fizzy drink, lemonade or just carbonated water. It helps the medication be absorbed. Often during migraines your stomach stops working properly so any medication isnt absorbed.
Sleep. |

I find that I have to take the medication (and other preventative action) before I'm truly uncomfortable or it'll rebound on me. Cool dark room, no screens, check for neck or shoulder tension (hot shower and roll shoulders/ neck). Sometimes self massage on the edge of the occipital ridge makes a difference (although often I feel worse in the immediate moments before relief). Potential triggers?
Try to sleep if you can. |

you have my sympathy-vile vile things.
i found myself with cluster headaches and after tests, investigations etc i had to come off all painkillers as the specialist decided that it was a vicious circle thing where the painkillers were in fact causing the headaches...
please go and see your gp and i hope that you begin to feel better soon x |

"Might be serious tbh doctors or hospital"
^ +1.
It beggars belief that people would come to a swinging site to discuss quite serious medical complaints. FFS we have dedicated 24/7 confidential advice services free at the point of use, staffed by qualified, experienced personnel who would rather advise you to contact a doctor or visit a&e than give you duff advice.
Your NHS may be stretched but better you call on them than leave things to get worse and be more difficult to treat later. |

It’s clear to see that most people here don’t actually suffer with migraines!
If only water, dark and sleep cured them, nobody would have them.
You can buy a triptan over the counter, pricy but they do work for a lot of people, then go and see your GP if you haven’t already got a differential diagnosis and/or treatment. |

I hope it has eased off, migraines can be debilitating.
I saw on good old fb putting a peg in between your thumb and first finger can help. Something to do with it being a pressure point. Worth a try! |

Mine were diagnosed after being blue lighted to hospital with an aura including partial blindness. Different things may work for different people, and there's a difference between alleviate and cure. |

Horrid isn’t it. That happens to me about once every 18 months, hugely scary and I’m always treated like I’m having a stroke.

Agreed, some people definitely assume a bad headache is a migraine. You get a migraine and you know about it, whilst migraine sufferers get different symptoms, I get really bad moving Auras, can screw up my vision for hours, once the Aura goes I then get a banging headache.
For me I've learnt to deal with the headaches and crack on with things. The Auras, however I genuinely fear, can't speak properly, pretty much can't do anything and so far not one drug has managed to help.

I've only had it the once. I don't always spot my auras until it's too late, they're pretty indistinct (unclear thinking, bitchiness, nausea/ light sensitivity. Sort of I'm having a bad day until boom! Oh shit that was an aura) |

I’ve had central blindness, peripheral blindness, a tiredness so crushing I lay down in a road, aphasia, dysphasia among other things.
They’ve changed over the years. |

Im relatively lucky in that, normally, I start to feel really spaced in the hour before the aura kicks in. And I mean really spaced, like I've been on something. So I stop what I'm doing and prepare myself.
To this day, I still have the worry that the next aura I have might be the one that leaves me blind, and no matter how much the docs tell me this is nonsense I still have that worry. Does my head in. |

Today was the 2nd visual migraine I've had this week and the 3rd in less than a month. I slept after taking medication, then a cool bath, now left feeling woozy |

I'm a chronic migraine sufferer so I feel your pain.
I wet a folded facecloth and put it in the freezer for a half hour. Place it over my forehead and eyes. As well as placing an ice pack on my neck. This helps take the intense pain away. It won't cure it but it will help.
I am on a migraine preventive medicine called Amitriptyline which your GP might be able to prescribe you.
Also look online for a headache hat. They are pretty much an ice pack that you can wear.
Nothing worse than a prolonged migraine. It's so hard to find your triggers. Believe it or not my neurologist told me that caffeine helps some people, but others it can be their trigger. Only 10% of migraine sufferers are triggered by food.
Also pick up the tablets over the counter suggested by one of the other members.
I hope you get some relief soon |
