Tonight on channel 4 Trainspotting 2 is being broadcast and I can fully recommend if not seen. Really great film.

The other day Top Gun 2 trailer was released and looks good.. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

What movie sequels did you particularly like or dislike?

Super Troopers 2 I was looking forward to so much. It was alright but not even half as good as the first.

Jaws 2 is regularly slagged off as an inferior sequel, compared to the first film obviously it is nowhere as good as the first film. But after seeing ' The Meg' recently, Jaws 2 is certainly better than that and 'Deep Blue Sea' another below average, shark film.

The thing with sequels is that they are either really good or really bad.

Terminator 2 and Aliens being 2 of the best sequels ever.

While it was never a massive groundbreaking movie, Pacific Rim in its own right for what it was, was amazing. The sequel however... Damn that was bad.

I'm not going to include direct book to movie adaptions because good or bad they were mostly based on the source.

As a comic book fan I was not a massive fan of the Toby maguire spiderman movies, however Spiderman 2 was an awesome movie.

Same for X-men 2.

Let’s try and forget the abomination that was Indiana Jones and the crystal skull.

Sometimes a sequel is terrible. With regard to the top gun trailer, it looks like there’s a volleyball scene, a singing round the piano in a bar scene. I just pray it’s not going to be a terrible pastiche of the original.

I've not seen that but glad I didn't. First was a corker film. Parody and sci-fi mixed

I agree with Kietonel, there have been some amazing sequels that took the first film and built on it in new and brilliant ways. Terminator 2 and Aliens are probably the two best examples of that.

In my opinion it's when the sequel expands on the story and adds another layer to it, that doesn't mean bigger and louder (Michael Bay, I'm looking at you!). It's when it's thoughtful and builds the story, then gets bigger and louder

I liked the "I'm not going through that again because I've seen it close up" scene but that's about it. Less said about Meg, the better ha!

Agree, as in Blade Runner 2049 which I was so scared about but was gorgeous and loved the first too.

I had the same feeling about Trainspotting 2 but it's great. It's not about the themes of the first.. Its set 20years after the first movie and about memory and decisions they (and you the viewer) have made in that passage of time.

I really didn't like the new blade runner, the only good thing about it was the score.

The empire strikes back has to be up there with some of the best sequels but even modern films can surprise you.

I'll go to my grave thinking that kung-fu panda 2 is as least S good if not better than the original

Aliens. Almost superior to original.

Terminator 2. Self evident

Definitely, though I don't think panda and dragon are better but they definitely live up to the originals and compete with them.

Were as Empire strikes back, Aliens, and Terminator 2 are much better than the first movie.

Another trend is the strong start, weak middle, and powerful finish.

Toy Story followed this trend. (toy story 4 doesn't count! As decent as it was, it didn't need to happen).

Babe the Pig in the City was nowhere near as good as the original Babe the Pig film.

John wick, haven’t seen 3 yet but looking forward to it.

The Dark Knight, slightly let down by Rises but not by much.

The less said about each Micheal Keaton Batman sequel as they got progressively worse the better. Although Michelle Pfeiffer in the cat suit

Where's your sense of nostalgia?

It does help to know the first one pretty well to get alot of the shot references, but I thought it was awesome. How reminiscent it made me feel and questioned what I have done in 20years.
