I still cannot bring myself to walk underneath a ladder..

If I see one magpie I always say"good morning/afternoon Mr magpie (I believe there are local variants on this).

No. I (Luke) avoid anything like that. I'll walk under a ladder if it's the most convenient way of going. I'll say "touch wood" without touching wood. I've never even heard of saluting a magpie.

It's all a load of nonsense I can live without.

I think it started way back when, the middle grate wasnt reinforced so had a chance of falling through, after that it's always been bad luck to walk across them.

I get that superstition from my parents
