Isn't the intention of language to convey common meaning etc? How can that happen if we switch it up willy nilly?

But meanings are ever changing, semantic shift can be good - it's part of what keeps language and communication evolving and exciting. You share and teach people your particular meaning of words and it spreads. Language should reflect the need for the user at that time, the culture etc.
* Acronyms aren't quite words though so maybe find another one OP.
