Deep in-bedded scar tissue

I have recently (April) had a deep in-bedded contraceptive implant removed from my upper arm by plastic surgery, as it wasn't injected into the fatty tissue but into muscle.

The surgery has caused a raised setting of scar tissue in my skin and quite often leads me to want to tear the skin off my arm (not everyday) but on the days it does that is all my brain can think about, I do apply moisturiser and rub quite hard when it does happen, but do you have any other ways to combat this sensation?

I have been told years ago that I have a tendency to over heal, so could this be part of the problem, as I do feel I have some knotty parts under my skin as if the stitches haven't quite dissolved, even though after a few months they must have, how do I go about not tearing my bloody arm off?

Do you smoke, as that affects healing and scarring? Avoid the sun on the scar area as scars burn very easily when new. Even sun block may not be enough, try to cover the area. I’m healing from a minor surgery and was told to use Vaseline. I apply it several times a day. Apparently it keeps the scar from drying out and getting irritated. It might help you too?

Bio oil to help with the scarring, and as daft as it seems massage the area every day as it might just be the muscle and tissue settling after the op. That’s what I was advised after my breast op and it helped x

I do smoke, but even the surgeon said I heal very well, as he had trouble finding previous scar matter.

I was just wondering as it was actually in the muscle mass that was proving difficult to deal with rather than just the normal healing process, maybe I'll just have to deal with as each day as it comes and put up with the hateful 'I want to tear off my arm days' sensation

Thank you, I will give it a go x

The feeling you describe could well be a reaction to the subdermal sutures, especially if Vicryl was used (most likely).Although it's tensile strength will be gone in 60 days, remnent material could still be present.

Also.....it probably wasn't injected into muscle, but like all foreign body material, it can migrate, sometimes a significant distance from the site of implantation.

It does feel real even I have been assured they will have dissolved within 3 weeks though

I had an operation on my stomach as a baby and the scar has some adhesions to the muscle below. Sometimes it can be painful doing abdominal excercises as a result. It's like an uncomfortable tugging sensation. Apparently the only thing that can fix it is more surgery and that's not garunteed as it can cause new adhesions to form. I find stretching helps.

My mum gets very deep sort of itching in her skin. She can't stop rubbing and scratching. Holding frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel on it helps
