What would you do?

A friend at work came to me started talking about some friends of hers saying she thought they were swingers and how shocking it was. What would you do? Claim ignorance, grin and nod or confess to being involved too?

Sounds like that someone was fishing to see if you swing.

Ask what it means and see how much they know.

It's a trap.

Start a counter rumour about how your friend enjoys regular orgies with Turkish dwarfs to teach her a lesson

Tell her not to be such a gossip or you may have to repeat what they say about her behind her back

That's tempting but I don't think there are any Turkish dwarfs round here.

I was thinking that way myself I smiled at the time and didn't say a lot but she has mentioned it twice now.

Ask if they are swingers as it takes one to know one.

You could always say that you had heard that they (the person accusing) are swingers and have heard 'all the rumours' about what they get up to.

Lets see how they like it.

Well it wouldn't kill prospects work wise but I am not really sure if I want to become office gossip materiel. Its tempting to say just for the shock factor though.

That was similar to what I said first time it was said but I am beginning to think there is some fishing going on.

If it really is a friend, why not ask how she has come to think this and why has she not talked about it to them to make sure before she tells anyone else? This person needs to learn a little consideration and respect for others private lives.

You would have to tell me if there are any openings at your work.

I would just look puzzled and say

"it's sex, why is it so shocking?"

She sounds a bit thick to be honest, if she imagines she's being 'subtle' in her investigations

If she keeps mentioning it maybe you should ask why she thinks they are. Does she have evidence? Has she seen/heard something? Feign shock too to get her onside and gauge her reaction. She may open up and say she likes the idea or she may be genuinely shocked by it. I wouldn't let on about your own swinging activities just yet though as it doesn't sound like it would be beneficial to you to have this person telling other people what you do, which is exactly what she'll do.
