Travelling

I recently returned to the gym, then for no particular reason got put off by it.

I now do basic workouts without gym equipment, on my own.

Jump rope is so amazing if you just want to stay active and tone up.

More than happy to help online in any way I can. I do kettlebell training at home - 300 swings is my favourite challenge... haha...seriously. Nothing to do with actual swinging (as in the scene!)...

Let me know if you need any tips, help etc...

Thanks Niki. I just need to know what's best for weight loss whether I'm best doing heavier weights and fewer reps or vice versa. I know I'll need to do plenty or cardio which will be a delight I'm sure lol x

You don't need to do loads of cardio, lovely. That's a big myth. Some, yes, but not loads.

Do some research on kettlebell swings - they are super dooper fat burning. I did the 300 swings challenge - started with 8kg kettlebell - I now swing a 20Kg one. it's quick and efficient - i.e. doesn't take long and burns loads of calories - much much more than running.

Combination of different sets - heavy with low reps and light with high reps...

TBH, I'd just start with whatever you feel comfortable with - actually starting is the hardest bit!

Why not start a weekly Gym motivation thread? You can share your progress and others too

The crap fab runners thread has helped those with the couch to 5k and beyond so a gym thread may inspire others too

Good luck with yours

Never tried it , not sure I’d know how . I do a HIT military boot camp twice a week and lift heavy weights twice a week. But I had to build up to that over a few months. Before that all I ever did (for years ) was walk the dogs .

I don't so gym buddies.

2 reasons

I can't train with people who are significantly weaker than me as it takes more effort constantly adjusting weights.

I tend to break them and they never come back.

Nothing beats the way you feel after a good training session. The test will be when for whatever reason you miss 6 - 7 days training and start the slow creep back to inactivity. Going to the gym can feel like a complete chore but fight through that and you'll feel fantastic.

I love seeing people on a fitness journey. Best of luck and enjoy!!

last time I had noms, I had to lower myself on to the toilet. TMI, I know. But going down the stairs is the worse! Sorry - a couple of days. Don't do too much tomorrow, maybe try some gentle stretching. Also, get some Arnica and have more baths than you would.

You'll feel great once you have a session at the gym with no doms! Accomplished all the way.

PS: I think we are on kik - on a group together, so feel free to message me if you need any help through your journey. I've been where you are and it's totally worth the feeling of being strong.

No, you work to your own body and theres always alternatives to each exercise. It's really helped with my balance and core.

I'm a cardio freak so it took me a while to get my head around. I dont lift weights anymore.

Spinning classes are great for your cardio 45 mins of hell hah.

I think the key is to not do the same exercise all week every week. Mix it up a bit. If you swim that's good as well.

Less of the wannabe, you go so you are.

I'm always supportive of people. I remember being the new guy and getting some great advice off the older guys. Now I'm one of them i try to give back where i can.

I'm coaching a few young lads at the gym with their powerlifting, very satisfying to see them progress under my guidance.
