Do you write?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I’ve been a writer for as long as I could write. Mostly I write short poems. They’re a wonderful way to make sense of my thoughts and feelings. I usually write them to make someone smile or let them know I’m thinking of them.
I tried to write a novel once but I must have read too much Tony Parsons as it turned out just like one of his so I trashed it. One day I’ll have an original idea! |

"If so what? I write erotica and poetry.. My poetry is hard raw n punchy, dont like ro tweek it as it is my emotions of that time "
I do poetry, short stories, articles, reports, summaries etc.
I don’t know what it’s called, but my poetry is where you put pen to paper and just write whatever comes into your head. You can’t have a break or take the pen off the paper and you’re done when there’s nothing more to write. No revising or editing allowed |

Yeah, I call it raw poetry... Head down and dont stop the pen, let the emotions flow from start to end, then leave it alone.. The minute you tweek it, it loses that emotion.. Helps me get thru my "stuff". |

Yes. Poetry sometimes, mainly daft sorts for friends to cheer them up, in letters etc. I've done a few guest posts for friends blogs. I'd like to write but I'm not *quite* good enough. I can be critical about others but absolutely tear mine to shreds. Meh! |

I tried to write up my life, to show others that anything is possible if you really want it.. But the time is not right yet so I use my poetry to lay down my past and present, knowing that the emotion of those times will always be there waiting to unfurl.. Maybe one day I ll have the time |

Ah get on girl, theres no such thing as being good enough as there should be no rules and I ve always thought that the majority may hate or judge it but if it appeals to one person and changes theor outlook then it was worth the writing |

I wrote a lot in my twenties, proud of it at the time; I look back at it now and cringe.
Wrote something a couple of years ago I'm quite pleased with though.
Will it stand the same test of time, who knows. I may look back and cringe at that too...

I often look around bookshops and wonder at how things have changed.. So many shelves of celebrities biographies, most of which have not lived a half life, as in age, and I think is there a point to writing something deeper or of adventure, but then I think, just write, does it matter... Maybe I m wrong but my best reading is often that which was written before footballers, celebreties, reality shows etc.. But thats my opinion |

I do agree
Best books are the ones that comes from something you have inside and that you want to put outside. A feeling or an idea.
In this case age is just a number, yet in terms of biography ecc, age matters indeed |

I think it's called 'stream of consciousness'
I'm not particularly introspective, but I can see how that would be cathartic. |

I have noticed the very same. If it’s not a footballers life story it’s a “glamour model” or comedians. All have the exact same dull stories to tell. It’s almost as if we, as humans are becoming the same as the products we purchase from the conveyor belts. Nobody wishes to step out of the norm, thus: everyone ends up fulfilling the same prophecy of a mistaken and lost identity. |

You know, there’s truth in what you’ve said. On the other hand it’s a formula that works so you can’t condemn people for writing what the majority seem to want to read |

It’s ironic, the majority have ghost writers for their autobiographies, they lack insight and talent entirely. I do understand where you’re coming from though. They are an easy sell. |

Ha! Right again. Ghost writers. Now they are the clever ones.. Same stories, same style, just carry out a ‘find and search’ to change names and locations. Sit back with an exclusive gin on an exotic island and watch the loyalties pour in |

I've been told I should by lots of people. I'm more of an online renter and reactionary in my approach though. Dont have the endurance or drive to write a book on my own, no matter how much I think I want to.
I won the only creative writing competition I put my name down for when I was 32.
I get more attention on Fab via the words I write, without the Forum, I struggle to make myself known on here. I get the same attention from those written words on Facebook as I do on here. Random strangers drawn in by my random musings. A few enemies made along the way.
I'd consider writing as a way of making extra money, or even switch careers if I had any idea how to start, what to do.. or the slightest inclination that people would want to read what think.
I think I'm more of a collaborator than individual when it comes to creativity. I need a team to kick my arse a bit. |

Yes I do. I attended creative writing classes which were very useful and made me realise exactly what publishers want and more importantly, how they want it. It also made me realise how difficult writing for profit rather than pleasure is. |

That's what puts me off. I enjoy the freedom of writing what I want, when I want. To communicate directly and openly with the world in real time. Not caged down on paper, held back by multiple leashes. When I say collaborate, I'm thinking like minded creative souls.. not suits. |

I do a bit of writing. Mainly as a spontaneous overexuberent response to a private message. I also write poetry and have started a thousand books, which have all dwindled to forlorn spirits with silent screams. |

I think there's room in individual lives for both. Another thing this class taught me is that a lot of creative souls in one room can be an 'interesting' and enlightening experience and collaboration isn't something many of them are keen on. |

I write computer languages and technical reference material. Which means that when I'm writing non-technically (such as this post) i tend to stress over the selection of every word, worry about the clarity of the intended meaning, obsessively re-edit and correct. (At least five rewrites of the previous sentence).
So unlikely to write a novel any time soon.
On the other hand, it can be quite cathartic when i (very) occasionally get so angry about sheer stupidity in the politics forum, or transphobia in the swinging forums, that i let rip with stream of consciousness... Shit, piss, fucking ignorant wankers, thinking with your bollocks....
Ah, that can feel good
Love you all, Polly xx |

Yes.
I write songs, poetry, short stories. I'd love to write a novel one day!
In the past couple of years I've been blogging on and off and have written a few articles online about body positivity and mental health.
I love writing, find it really therapeutic!
I also used to write erotica but haven't for aaaages! Might give it another go actually |

Yep. It's interesting to note that desire for attention increases directly in relation to lack of ability. I firmly believe that everyone should write if they want to but you need to be realistic. The tutor really gained my respect for her ability to take people seriously whatever she was presented with by people convinced they had a best seller on their hands. |

I wrote a few stories on the forum. Then ended up writing one that grew into 97 chapters and 122k words.
Ended up taking over my life. Was quite proud of myself though.
But taking a break from it now |

Sometimes yes, but nothing too interesting. I've mainly done loads of beauty and fashion related articles for online websites. It's good for some spare cash but very boring. |
