Just started James Herberts Ash.. Hell if a change for me as I dont generally read novels, this is possibly one of maybe a dozen I ve read in my life.. What about you? Whats your poison? And curious, I have to read a book, not a tech screen thing, has to be a book Love turning pages, the scent of an old book, the notes people may have written giving a strangers opinion.. Are you paper or tech screen reader?

Paper. One of those "paper is superior, down with Kindles etc" sorts.

Recently I've been reading Roald Dahl's Lust in preparation for what will be an interesting take on Hysterical Literature - I've no doubt I will end up laughing.

I used to read a lot but having to do lots of reading for my degree put me off a bit...

I enjoy art and art history books, and historical novels..and anything factual about history

Currently on my bedside table i have The ghost tree by Barbara Erskine and Mythos by Stephen Fry

We’ve both got kindles that we used for a while years ago, but both prefer proper books...like you say, the feel, smell etc...our taste in literature is quite eclectic

Newcastle upon Tyne

I read loads, love the feel of books but these days I read more on the kindle app as it allows me to choose books I wouldn't normally read because of space.

Try Corrag by susan fletcher. Its also called witchlight.. Very very good historical novel based heavily on fact, but it is her poetic way of writing about the Scottish Highlands that is captivating and so beautiful

One day I ll go to Hay on Wigh and spend the whole day browsing the bookshops for those unique books not found generally.. Bookshops are like music shops for me.. Just browsing, flicking thru, because you never know what may jump out at you

Hay is wonderful. I read everything I can. I always have but I get really disappointed when I read a book that I don’t enjoy. I have to finish the bloody thing once I start. Currently got my nose in The Porpoise by Mark Haddon. Great read thus far.

I (Luke) am a very slow reader. I hardly ever read fiction. I like histories, biographies, and books on science and music.

I smell the pages of books .... I love the sound of the spine creaking as you open it for the first time.

I always had a book on the go until I bought a tablet 6 years ago. That 'instant hit' of information has buggered up my concentration span and I now only read a few books a year, which is very poor considering I have a literature degree. I used to read 3 novels a week on average

My preference is a book but I’ll use a Kindle when travelling. I used to read a lot but with work these days it’s mostly just an hour before bed.

I’m currently making my way through the last few DI Helen Grace series.

A.

Same here!

The smell of the book's pages is wonderful.

I love old style paper, that get yellow as it ages. Not a fan of the new ones that remain always white.

I'm used to read since I have memory. Perhaps I started at 7-8 years old and never stopped!

At the moment I am reading the 5th book (and last) of Gene Wolfe's saga "the book of the new sun"

I prefer sci-fi and fantasy and 'normal' literature.

Fan of Fitzgerald, Murakami, Hesse, Hemingway and Ishiguro

Bought one of the first Kindles just for books but have to confess real books are far better. Me and the wife read a lot our recent favs have been the Shardlake books by CJ Sansome based around Henry VIII reign. Great stories and an insight into Tudor life

Back where I belong

I've always loved reading. It's a kindle for holidays, but nothing beats the smell and feel of a real book.

Depending on your musical taste, Keith Richards book, written by himself, not a ghost writer is fantastic. He talks of music and people and yes tge drugs as well but very little.. Most musicians write an endless book of drugs and sex but not Keith.. Worth a read

Thanks!

I'm on Salinger's side when in "the catcher in the rye" says something on the line that when you finish a good book you wish to be a friend of the writer, so to call him/her and questioning about all the unspoken and unanswered questions you have in your head.

Love these! They're so good, I look forward to the next one soon as I hear he's writing again.

This is actually not true, modern papers (from the 30’s onwards) are much more likely to yellow than antiquarian. The papers used before ww1 were of far superior quality (velum, hand made etc) opposed to the pulped rubbish that’s used today.

I love books and collect with precision. I’m currently reading the poetic works of George crabbe’s and Plato’s republic. I’ve made a deal with myself to attempt more modern literature so, have Thomas mann’s Death in Venice to read next.

I'm reading a biography of Lettice Knollys it's hard work and taking me a while.

I enjoy reading by any medium. We are all reading these fora on a 'device' it would be impossible on paper.

All methods of conveying the written word are valid and useful

Didn't know yet, thanks for the good information.

I just know a new kind of paper (quite recent) that remains white and that increase the book price a lot - I did find to be used in manuals and similar books
