Hi, talking on here with someone(no names) for a couple of weeks and was on Facebook looking what my friends have been upto and I found the person who I was talking to in the (people you may know) bit, hadn't looked for the person and only knew first name, has this happened to anyone else???? |

Yes. The ‘people you may know’ bit is people who have looked at your Facebook. Usually it’s people with mutual friends; but yes - it means whoever pops up as ‘someone you may know’ it’s someone who’s looked your Facebook. It’s happened 3 times to me now, I’ve just blocked as soon as I’ve realised.  |

And that too, if your phone number is connected to your Facebook they can either pop your number into the search bar and find you, or sync their contacts so you pop up as someone they may want to chat to on messenger |

Basically; if you gave me your first name only, I could pop it into Facebook. If your location is correct on your profile, I can also pop that into the filters part. Would be easy to find ya, unless you have made it so nobody can search for you (I know you used to be able to do this, can’t remember how or if you still can).
Once I’ve creeped your Facebook, I’d appear on your ‘people you may know’ bit |

Yep! Discovered all this when my friend tracked down her boyfriends ex girlfriend (and the mother of his kid) 
And not too bad - only ten weeks to go, thank god. Can barely walk, even though my bump is tiny. He’s a heavy boy  |

I think it also has something to do with if you have allowed the Facebook app to monitor your location, it will suggest people that frequent similar locations that you might not normally have so if you start a new job for example it will show new work colleagues |
