^ I feel exactly the same ^

There is a young guy in an accounts department for one of the customers I service who was proud of his new neck tattoo and asked me what I thought........I said do you want an honest answer? I told him that he has just capped his earning capacity in any employed job, he said you are not allowed discriminate on tattoos much like anything else, I do agree but the reality is that you do! How many head accountants or people in high level management roles do you see with neck tattoos?

I have a few guys working for me and recently needed a new tyre fitter, its not a high flying job but does have a certain amount of customer interaction, there were 2 guys short listed for the post one had visible tattoos one didn't who do you think got the job?

But some employers think the neck tat shows a lack of judgement on the part of the interviewee!

I was told, when I started getting mine, almost 30 years ago, that I wouldn't get jobs because of them as I would scare little old ladies... In actuality, I have found the complete opposite, the little old ladies think they are great and often start conversations about them just as much as the younger people. And I have never not gotten a job because of them or my whole look in general... Oohh I didn't get a job in a tattooists when I looked more normal and went dressed for an interview

Bear with me... Is it more easier to approach some one and compliment them on their neck tattoos than to offer ones disproval... Eh mate thumbs up with the tatts... Eh mate don't like your tatts...

The fact that more say they like them may not reflect a balanced overview...

Hey but at the end of day their your tatts and who gives a f%lying fuck what others say or think...

And if they do entice compliments go for it..

"U shouldnt not get a job because off the tatts u should be judge on ur skills in my eyes"

You are right, however just because you are right doesn't mean to say that is what will happen. Tattoos are more common nowadays but I would say the majority of people who are in the position where they are hiring people will discriminate against them. Discrimination isn't always a concious thing but is often a decision built upon previous experience. I own several businesses and come into with lots of other owners and this is my take on it......

Basically what your saying in simple terms is you'll still judge anyone for having them than consider their skills and merit.

So rather than question your ability to be more open minded about a person's tattoos you'll still be judgemental.

I've met many successful "professionals" be it lawyer, mechanic (who owns their own trike building business and has full facial tattoo and got more business from having his tattoos), school teacher, and various other highly public and interactive positions. They've all been judged on their ability to do the job than what their skin looks like.

If someone has skills and experience and has merits to be given the job nothing should stop an employer employing the right person for the job. If they want to be judgemental about a person's appearance then it's their own problem hiring the lesser persons for the job they miss out on business potential. Got be out of your mind to not take the best person for the job over something as trivial as a tattoo.

You have missed the point. If two people have the same skills and experience and interview equally as well I would hire the person without the neck tats because in my opinion (repeat MY opinion) the person with the tats has visibly shown not as good judgement as the other person. Similarly if two people interviewed for a job in a law firm and they both interviewed equally as well but one of them turned up dressed in jeans and flip flops, I would hire the man in a suit and tie because in my opinion he has shown better judgement by dressing more appropriatly for the occasion. In saying that I fully accept that other people will have different opinion to me which is why there is often more that one person on the interview panel.

Now if the person have a swastika or a penis tattooed I'd probably agree the tattoo would be bad judgement.

But why would a visible tattoo be bad judgement? As long as it isn't derogatory or offensive in anyway

Just because you don't like their choice doesn't make it bad judgement. Just means you don't like it.

Bad judgment is the women who let her new boyfriend whom she met after a few days tattoo in massive black letters his name across her face. Thats bad judgement.

Having a neck tattoo isn't bad judgement unless it's meant to actually offend someone in someway. Be it any form of isms or forcing someone to view sexually graphic images they have tattooed which would be equal to a flasher exposing himself to individuals

Other than that there's no reason it would be bad judgement.

Maybe poor judgement in choice of tattooists lacking skills if it's a poorly done tattoo that would about it. But if they chose to they could improve that but it's their body art. They like it their choice.

Just like someone who enjoys Rembrandt but you only like Picasso very different styles but it's still art.

Can't judge a person based on their taste of art even if they like that art on their skin.

It would be questionable if 2 came for an interview equally qualified but one over waxed their eyebrows and I don't like that particular look so I give it the other based on that. Sounds diabolical doesn't it?
