"Get rid of the offside rule (football)
What's that?"
Well ... if a player is in front of the last defender at the moment the ball is played and becomes active in the play then that player is adjudged to be off side |

Is that when they are allowed to pick up said ball and run with it? |

No, hence why I put 'football' in the brackets in my post so you wouldn't get confused with rugby. |

Ah ... now offside in rugby can be a little more complex
But generally can not gain an unfair advantage by being in front of the ball at the time that it is played
Off side on hockey is easy ... there is no off side in hockey ..
Any more? |

Oh I would refer to that as American Football or Australian Rules Football, again to keep confusion to a minimum.
I'm not sure if they even have something in their rule books to do with 'offside'. |

The gridiron game (football as played in US) does have offside. It's when a player of either side crosses the line of scrimmage, ie. enters the opposition portion of the field, before the snap |

No one is going to confuse Olympic Diving Football with a proper sport like Rugby Football (Or Rugby as it is commonly referred to). |
