Is Society dumbing down?

King's lynn

We have space Tourism going ahead at huge cost to material and the environment and yet we have villages with no sanitation or running water.

The phone and its ramifications, spelling is becoming atrocious, conversation muted, chat stifled, I see it when out that social media seems more interesting than the partners banter.

Fat, why is it acceptable? Why are we letting that happen, watch a Top of the Pops from the 60s, 70s and see the boys and girls in it. They are very rarely overweight.

Putin, Kim, Boris and Trump are in power or soon to be, what is it with the intelligence of the human race? Why are we allowing this to go on.

Mother Earth is being ruined by plastic too!

Yet we do little. I try not to think if it all as it does make me too sad, but sometimes I cannot help but have a wee rant.

Society isn't dumbing down. In real terms more people are literate, more have sanitation and running water, more attend school after the age of 11, use their phone to communicate world wide and access information and so on.

I agree that there is a problem with the western diet and the health problems it's causing and our current world leaders but that's nothing new.

I can't agree that people are doing nothing. They are, just not enough of them.

Simple response to that, food was still scarse and very, very boring mostly consisting of meat and two veg. Plus the kids were outdoors most of the day

They probably did but it's undeniable that advance nation we're becoming larger.

Diet brings problems whatever. Previously people were undernourished, kids had rickets and other diseases caused by malnourishment. Now we have problems with type two diabetes etc caused by over nourishment. During rationing in the war people's diet was the healthiest it's ever been though.

If it makes you sad, get active and do something about it.

Probably all the running away from the TOTP presenters they had to do!

I see your point, but your examples are a bit off. I'd have pointed out things such as the surge in people believing the Earth is flat for starters.

I think the issue with society nowadys is how easily it's manipulated. We've gotten to a point where everyone is so hungry for a conspiracy that politians can use it as a shield and people will believe anything served to them on Facebook.

Overpopulation is the elephant in the room, but short of eugenics and state enforced birth control worldwide which would be hugely unpalatable to the public that ain't gonna change.

In response to your title, I agree that certain aspects of popular media are dumbing down, however I think that people aren't necessarily.

The wealth of technology and information available at our fingertips 24/7 means that people don't need to remember facts or information as we had to 20 years ago

I can see where op is coming from on people being heavier now than years ago when I was at school you might of had the odd one that was overweight but looking at kids today I’d say majority of kids are overweight but so are the parents probably bad eating and to much tv I think most of us have become lazier and eat pre made meals packed with calories

People didn't exactly have a choice with putting Kim in power.

Boris isn't being voted into power by way of an election by the people (i think).

Trump is in power because Americans are tired with regular politicians.

There is a lot happening with the level of plastic in the oceans.

I agree about the social media though. People should have a certain IQ before being allowed access to the internet.

Fat is acceptable because its offensive if it isn't
