I've had it with birth control methods. Nothing agree's with me.
Just been on Cerazette for 2 months, I've had to come off them due to developing every single side effect listed in the leaflet. Mood Swings, loss of libido, weight gain, dry down there, headaches. It's no wonder it's such an effective form of birth control, with all that going on you don't want sex. I've been off them only a few days and already I feel myself coming back to normal.
Everything else I have tried including the coil has not agree'd with me either.
I really want to just go and get sterilized. I'm 35 and very firm on the fact I don't want any more children, so it does seem like a good option for me but I was just hoping to hear from any of the women out there that have been through this.
The main questions I have is if any of you experienced problems post op, or if your libido was effected, or any other long lasting side effects. Really grateful of your input. xx

When I had my first two, I swore I wasn't having any more. I split with their dad and still felt the same, any relationship I had I told them I didn't want any more kids. I think if a sterilization was offered then I would have took it. That was until I met C, he didn't have any and after we married I just felt the need to bear his children. Partly for him, partly to cement us as a family. We've got 2 together. So glad I didn't do anything concrete then.
Who knows... you might be popping them out in your 40's hehehe xxx |

That's very encouraging, would hate to loose my libido, I feel like a right frump when that takes a dive.  |

I'm using a new method of birth control for men, it's a pebble, I put in me shoe and it makes me limp.
Siren's got a new one too, it's a boulder, she puts it behind the bedroom door and I can't fookin get in! |

I have the Depo injection. I take B6 vitamin supplement along side it, because I get furious mood swings if I don't, the B6 stops that. Well I wouldn't say stops them, but I'm less likely to kill someone 1 week of the month!
I want to be steralised. I've never wanted children, am not in the slightest maternal, but every doctor I've approached about steralisation has laughed me out of the surgery. One even saying, "when you get a husband, we'll discuss it with the two of you."
Like it's not my body and my choice. |

Fecking hell, what a 1930's viewpoint. That doctor probably still dishes out shock therapy for his patients suffering depression lol

i was sterilized when i was 34 and like another reply says, the keyhole surgery was quick and i only suffered mild discomfort for a short while after. the benefits are well worth it though. never having to worry again about getting pregnant and letting your body get back to its natural state - no more extra hormones or bits of wire/plastic inserted into various body parts! go for it defo!  |

I've never wanted my own, but even with a referral from my GP I won't be considered till I'm 40 - as if 6 months will make a difference!
This is something I've been certain of since my teens. I have siblings and they have children - we have a hoard running round when we get together! But I've never been broody, I never want to hold the baby, I have no urge to look in prams or coo over babies. In fact, friends have specifically NOT made me a godmother because they know how uninterested I am in children!
But just in case I change my mind I have had to subject myself (and the poor sods around me) to a variety of mood altering chemicals before my psychotic behaviour finally persuaded them to settle on the chemical free coil. 
It seems like the nhs has spent a lot of time and money on ensuring I have never had a scare, surely it would be easier if they could screen the ones who really do mean it like me and the op.  |

i was sterilized last May, I had the Essure device fitted, no surgery, very little discomfort during the procedure and after all I suffered was stomach cramps for about 24hrs. I'd recommend it to any woman |

Got sterilized at 33 via key hole method. Had this done after a pregnancy scare and realising that I really didn't want any more children (already had 2). I have never regretted it and felt so liberated afterwards... I had discomfort for a day or so but nothing too bad. The doctor did try the thing about waiting 6 months but I refused and insisted on being referred. |

I got done at 29 and it was easypeasy and painfree,also noticed a difference straight away with the labido side of things.

that's one thing I'm worried about, I can never ever stick to my guns in a doctors office. I'm all "whatever you think is best". I need a pep talk before going in lol. |

i know they can be a bit intimidating - especially if they are from "the old school" type. just imagine if the doctor was telling you that you were pregnant again - keep that in mind and i,m sure you,ll be able to see it through! |

I had the same thing...I knew in my early twenties that I did not want to have children but when I approached the subject with several GP's they would not even entertain the idea....said I would probably change my mind. Finally had to have a hysterectomy when I was 47 so that was that.....and I never ever changed my mind, I just had to put up with the continuous need for birth control.

I was sterilised when I was about 25, so they do, sterilise somtimes, It was very easy , keyhole , just cramps , and no probs after that ,till I had to have a hystorectomy at 39,due to ill health .x L |

Kate was steralised after 5 bad pregnancies, which resulted in only 2 babies. Doctors said it wouldn't be good for her health if she got pregnant again.
She had a full hysterectomy at only 31.

Im really glad the OP put up this post. Its so good to hear other women's stories about not wanting kids/any more kids.
Im in the same camp of 'no maternal instincts, seriously not interested in babies' (unless cute, furry and have four legs! lol)
And i too have a really annoyingly patronizing GP who pats me on the head and tells me i will probably want kids one day, so best not to do anything permanent!!!!
I was under the mistaken impression that female sterilization was very painful, and a difficult op. So im glad to read how straight forward it really is.
So thanks fabsters, thats two people you've given great advice to! |

I had three children at 29, two girls and a boy. I wanted to be sterilised after my son but they wouldn't as he was going to be delivered by emergency caesarian section 10 weeks prematurely.
He died two months later.
I went on to have another daughter but I insisted I wanted to be sterilised as that would have been my third caesarian in four years. So two weeks after my 31st birthday I was. My husband wasn't happy but he had two sons from a previous relationship and three girls from me...what more did he want?
I've never regretted it. |

i have found this thread both shocking, and informative, the fact doctors can still have such patronising and sexist attitudes to women is a real eye opener.
i have the coil, it has been wonderful, before getting it there was always a fear swinging that i might get caught, despite using condoms and being on the not very fertile end of the spectrum...everyone should feel they have the contraceptive choice they want available to them, |
