so near and yet so far.... |
Thoughts please, I’ve posted my V5C to the DVLA who’ve received it, but rejected it as I’d not filled a section in. My issue is the DLVA sent it out and I’ve not got it, and now I’ve got to pay £25 for a new V5C. I don't think this is fair...

That's cheap for them, pay it and run!
I got £125 because the new owner didn't send his part of the form in, so I got the fine!
No idea how that worked, but pointless having an arguement with them so just paid.
(Again no proof I had sent mine in (even thou it went signed for)

technically not their fault, as you missed the section, if was filled correctly would have not got lost coming back.
not hard to ask advise from friends or family to confirm |

did you check you received the notification you are not longer the registered keeper in the post if you didnt you simply write a small letter and you would have never have got any fine. |

regardless of a missed section if they sent out and hasnt arrived they should resend or sort it out.
That's like saying my expensive parcel hasnt arrived .... oh well it's your fault for ordering it in the first place ... |

The new owner doesn’t have a section to send in, it’s up to you to tell them the new owners details I’m afraid

I sent my provisional off to be updated before I started driving lessons. I had moved house and got married. The numpties sent my new driving licence and my marriage certificate to the old address in another city! My sister went to the old address but no one answered the door l. She put a letter through to ask them to contact her about it but they never got in touch. We were unable to retrieve them. Then when I spoke to the dvla they had no concept of why I would be angry and concerned about identity fraud because some stranger had got 2 forms of id in my name.......twats! |

yes happened to me once but if you want it you've got to pay, you didn't opt for the recorded delivery option then? |

I paid my car tax by direct debit for years. When I moved I sent them the form to change address, and changed address online as well for the direct debit. No issue for 5 years and forgot about it.
One day I found my car clamped outside my house, fortunately also have a company car. Rang them up and they claimed they had not received the V5C first time so cancelled the direct debit without notifying me. I pointed out that it was sent and they had updated the records and even written to me in that period.
I checked and the address and e mail address matched their records. They refused to accept responsibilty. I had to pay £260 to get the clamp removed, but £160 would be refunded if car tax renewed within 2 weeks.
Sent V62 in and paid £28 next day, 3 weeks later still not received anything back. Its meant to take under 2 weeks.
Everytime I ring, can't get through for ages then get cut off.
When all resolved I am doing what I hate and reporting it to Watchdog. |

It's your responsibility surely, to know what monies are or aren't being taken out of your bank account. So you should have noticed the direct debit was not going out and hence you had no tax

Unfortunately as with many things it's not about what's fair, it's about who has the power.
Government organisations operate with impunity. Feel grateful you aren't talking about dealing with HMRC. |

Done annually, but I do agree to an extend. Still doesn't excuse them cancelling without notifying me. |
