It has been suggested that in this heat men should not be topless , regardless of their figure as it's not a good look

Good look or not , I have been out topless today , granted iv usually, not always, respected shops, pubs , indoor spaces.

So is it a good look , does that matter if comfortable?

I think it's an incredibly naff look.

The sort of thing I'd expect to see on the streets of Basildon or Luton.

Wear a pair of Reebok Classic trainers to complete the overall appearance...

As long as you're in public and not entering private premises (shops etc), it's a fair game in my opinion.

Baffles me how being on the beach nearly naked is ok but anywhere outside it's not.

If you’re on the beach or in the park then I think it’s fine, especially in this weather. However I think it’s inappropriate in shops/towns/eateries.

I don't love it. I accept that it happens in this weather. I'm not bothered.

My main reason for suggesting not to would be more the increased sun exposure and the health risks that brings, but again not my business.

It’s incredibly lame and trying a bit to hard. The only places where it’s acceptable is at the beach or at a swimming pool. My instant thought when I see a bloke with his top of, other than these places is he’s a Terry Tryhard.

Its not a good look tbh.

Smacks of "look at how amazing I am." It never ceases to amaze me how many people come on holiday. "Turkey" and think it's acceptable to walk around wearing next to nothing. Men and women.

It doesn't surprise me that my friends here think we're tossers and "easy".

Exactly and it’s an everyday occurrence, morning, noon or night, and it doesn’t matter if it’s 100 degrees or minus 5

I wear flame proof, double skinned overalls, safety helmet, goggles or glasses and gloves depending on which plant I’m on in work, if I could walk this streets with my balls out without getting arrested I would, does that make me a pissed up chav , football hooligan type as people are putting on here.

It’s just putting the shoe on another foot, its the same type of scenario just suited for females

(God forbid we ever say anything about the female species) and because I’m not so judgemental to be worried about what other people wear, eat, say, or do with their lives.

If they don’t steal, hurt children, women or old people then why should we care?

Though I would love to see sweaty fit body in public, this is my preferred answer.

Iv just walked 400 m across a public park wearing only my shorts , barefoot

And you are suggesting

I was inappropriate and would give the look of a hooligan ?Thats not the impression the op gave. It gave the impression you where walking round the streets like it. Should of given full information in op

Indeed I had walked 200 along a street priorIf id seen you in the park i wouldnt of thought anything of it. If id seen you in the street i would of thought you looked like a chavvy pissed up football supporter"

I agree with you too.

"its not snobby.. it's a matter of inflicting your semi naked body on me.. whether I want it or not.

I'm not squeamish. It's a matter of respect. I grew up in hot countries, they didn't feel the need to get naked all the time infront of others. In Spain the Guardia will ask you to put a shirt on if you're not on the beachfront.. I agree with that law.

But in the Uk it's perfectly legal. The law's the law dude - if you and your kids don't like, don't look or go elsewhere

Not once in all the holidays have I been on not one Spanish policeman has asked a tourist to put their top on. Stop talking absolute bubbles "

Maybe you haven’t experienced that but it’s certainly not “bubbles”.

I was in Spain the year before last and I saw a police officer asking a group of three guys to put tops on. Maybe it depends on the area you visit.

"So what do people think when girls are walking around in bikinis tops? Shorts so tight and small that even Stevie Wonder could lip read, thongs hanging out, side boobs, see through items of clothing..... Should they cover up ? why not start a thread asking. This thread wasnt about any of those things

It’s just putting the shoe on another foot, its the same type of scenario just suited for females

(God forbid we ever say anything about the female species) and because I’m not so judgemental to be worried about what other people wear, eat, say, or do with their lives.

If they don’t steal, hurt children, women or old people then why should we care?

the op asked if it was a good look or not and people have answered accordingly. Have no idea why your getting your knickers in a twist your not even the op

"

I don’t wear knickers on Saturdays, but could somebody please do enlighten me the difference between a man with a top off walking down a street, in a park or wherever and a female that has literally less clothing covering her body in the same street, in the same park, or wherever? Is she a pissed Chevy, football hooligan type wanker as some have put in here?

Central

People own their own body and should largely be afforded the respect that reflects that freedom. We have a somewhat regressive society that is over rigid in its expectations. I'd like people to be healthy in their mind and body, without such upright reactions to people being semi or fully naked. Our continental friends are often more free and relaxed - we should not be permitted to consider leaving the EU until we shed much of our body stuffiness.

Whilst private organizations can make their own rules, unless there is real risk to health, I'd appreciate them letting people appear as they wish to.

Not everyone lives by the coast, so inland spots such as the Op's area, should cultivate a beach-like freedom for people.

I've seen some lovely sights this week and let people know that I approve

Just as a poibt of interest, in my younger days in Bradford there was a violent football gang called the ointment gang, known for carrying stanley knives and wearing... MAROON SUITS AND COLLARED SHIRTS, etc.. Never judge a book by its cover. I hate football, obscene money etc... Also I believe when gocernment cracked down on football hooliganism they found many were smartly dressed organised accountants, stockbrokers etc bored with their straivht life.. Just saying heehee

I don't consider other people's opinions when I get dressed in the morning, neither should others consider mine. Lots of the Mediterranean countries aren't fans of tourists wandering round with shirts off like they do here.

Whether that's regressive or not depends on who you talk to and their reasoning.

You have the freedom to dress that way, however I wouldn't think it appropriate in shops, pubs etc

I perfectly understand the perspective that some would find it inappropriate, I think circumstance and repercussions should be considered

However , throwing prejudgemental insults , name calling , chav (whatever that is ) Terry tryhard , douche bag

Really?

I'm sure there are indeed some valid social respect reasons that could be articulated as a reason for not approving , but assigning a pre judged character type and not then approving of that kind of person is lame and somewhat narrow minded

I'm not a chav, supporter of any football, a Terry tryhard, or a douche bag I do however sometimes walk amongst other humans without my top

So far no major incidents have occurred, although children are fascinated by my nipple ring

I perfectly understand some have issues , I'm not yet convinced that their minority view is not actually a poor reflection upon them and their acceptance of others

People have given their thoughts. The sight of a topless man conjures up thoughts of chavs or football hooligans. It's just what the sight reminds them of.

Much as the sight of a boat might remind you of a holiday as a kid. Or the sight of a skinhead man with a teardrop tattoo on his face might remind you of a primary school teacher.

Agreed in the original post mentioned not respecting shops or indoor spaces giving the impression he was out in town topless.

I personally think it should be reserved for the beach, and I always assumed people were topless on the beach so they could go in and out of the sea.

Genuinely, if I upset children there would be no way I would , however my personal reality mirrors the reaction of your child, , not the words so much but the look of fascination , and I love children to be fascinated rather than judgemental or frightened

I tell people to watch their language. I expected more confrontations when first started.. but people back down.. they go to start, then realise my kids are beside me and think better of it. If you are fit, good for you. Your confidence and physic will impress some and intimate others. The sad thing is how obese people are made to feel about themselves. If a fit guy pops off his top off it is because he can and will have no problem with all eyes on him. But I wouldn't subject people to my body without their consent.
