If you start a thread and it happens to need or warrant a second iteration, does it bother you if someone starts it before you?
Is this one of those 'unwritten rules' of the forums or is any thread fair game?

I would expect to be asked first unless I have made a specific comment for someone to continue in my absence |

I don’t think it’d bother me unless the second iteration OP got ‘best thread’ award in the Forum Awards, then I’d be irked for five minutes.
Probably thirty minutes if I could get a good HM rant in about it. |

Why on earth would anyone care? I’ve never seen purely original threads.
So no, I don’t care. Aaaaaaaages ago I was asked to continue a thread because it closed and the OP was at work, and I received messages from people asking why I had the ‘nerve’ to do that
If you think you’re that important that only you can post a thread, you need to chill and realise it’s just a forum |

It doesn't bother me about the part 2 bit but there are posters who do regular threads, daily or weekly and have done for a while. I do see other people start the same or very similar threads especially the very popular ones and just think it's bad manners and a lack of imagination to start something that's entirely their own. |

I will add the part 2 bit is reasonable if the OP isn't on line but iv seen part 2 stared the instant part one has closed by someone else and the OP is on line, then I think what I said above applies. |

I think it's hilarious how petty some regulars can be when someone else has the audacity to start a thread they regularly start. I just think get a fucking life! |

No wouldnt bother me. Only time it pissed me off was when someone decided to take it upon themselves to do the annual forum awards
Me and fem had done them for 10 years. Its not the fact they did them.its the fact they made a total bollocks of them when they had been brilliant for the past 10 years. But apart from that no im not precious about my threadsp |

I don't think it's about that in the slightest! If someone puts time and effort into building something up then someone else comes along and takes it, that's just rude. |

If its something that everyone is loving "In the moment" Like P's thread on Voices not long ago. Then I think it's a bit unfair to have to wait till she gets back from work before we can carry on playing.
The second you press send it's in a public domain and no longer your creative property. A thread is more than one person, it's a forum full of people and they've a right to speak.
I think any regular user knows who the more creative, prolific or thoughtful posters among us are.
If it bugs you, try and remember that "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Let it go.. |

In all seriousness, I can see your point.
There is a degree of 'I thought of that' and a kind of intellectual property value to some threads. Others, not so much.
Some threads are discussions and can just run irrespective of who posted the OP, others (snog, kick in the head, fart) are like cockroaches and just never die. Some though, if it's a game or something a poster thought up, I can understand it provoking irritation. |

"It's not cool man
*monkey rushes to type an "oi, that's mine 2" thread *
Too slow.
Mines winning

That's what I tell myself every morning in the mirror, except I growl afterwards. |

I had this when I was active on the thread, some sage started a part 2 and I felt a bit miffed, talk about taking the credit and riding on someone’s coat-tails, then I remembered none of this matters and ultimately we are all just atoms floating in space. |
