A so called 'someone better comes along' and boom. They do not want to know you nomore, lol. Days later they mail you back saying 'I made a mistake' sorry, darling, but, you can get to ***k. The point is, do not be 2nd best.

In that case I’d tell them they were third or fourth best. Then they’ll be grateful when I pick them

Excellent negotiation tactics

Is that why you told me I was 3,823rd best?

I’m always seeing status updates saying ‘been let down, who wants to meet now?’ Often wonder if they get a positive outcome

I got let down badly once when a long-planned meet failed to show. We were both attending a social in Galway and had decided to make a weekend of it. On the Friday I couldn't get in touch with him... Shrugged it off as him having bad phone coverage, and set out anyway on my 6 hour journey. Changed trains in Dublin, where I met up with friends who were also going to the social, and we did the last leg of the journey together. Still no word from my meet. Checked into our hotel. Had to pay up front for our double room for the weekend (we had agreed to split the bill). One of my friends called from her room to see if I wanted to meet up with her and a few other friends in the bar for a drink... She knew at this stage that I'd been let down and was feeling pretty bummed about it. When we went downstairs, I got a lovely surprise.... She had contacted another guy who had recently joined the site (she'd noticed me flirting with him in the chatroom and knew me well enough to know I was genuinely interested and not just flirting for kicks), and he was waiting for me... He was devilishly handsome, very witty, and we had lots of laughs and a couple of cheeky snogs. Unfortunately, he couldn't attend the social because he wasn't on the guestlist... But we met up again the next day and made the most of my double room

Wasn't quite the same as having a backup plan, I know... But my cloud definitely had a silver lining that weekend!!

Central

Who just wants one person anyway

It may be just one person at a time. In general though, any individual that you're chatting with only ever needs to know the date and time that you're going to be meeting with them - the rest of your diary is 100% your own business. If someone chooses to believe that they're 2nd, 3rd or 100th best, because you're not meeting them immediately, then it's their problem.
