Menopause....... how unstable did you feel? I paid the window cleaner this morning with a cheerful smile and thanks. Went to put the kettle on and cried because there was no water in it. Seriously? is this my life for the next few years?

It's ok .... it's just mother nature being a little bitch.

My menopause was surgically induced. (hysterectomy due to to uterine ca.20 yrs ago)I felt as thought I'd lost my mind. Black cohosh either in tea or pill form and soy were my little miracle pills. They both help with hormone imbalance and night sweats. Amazon.com carries both.

Hi OP! Might I suggest you find out if there is a female (or Male if not) GP at your surgery that specialises in menopause. Go and get help with it rather than try to cope with it. It can be dam awful at times depending upon how severely it affects you - sounds like it is doing already

There is support and help available if you seek it

Bookmarking this one as I'm off to bed, but really interested in this as I brought P home from hospital today after she had a full hysterectomy on Tuesday. I have a feeling that the next few months might not be that easy for her...or me.

I’m peri menopausal so at the beginning of it but the hot sweats n night sweats n lack of sleep are horrendous let alone my mood swings which aren’t good wen one suffers from depression, my gp won’t do anything to help me yet just keeps sending me for blood tests every month says I’ve to wait til he can put me on hrt.

I feel ur pain op!!.... good luck hope it eases up for u soon x

Thank you for you comments ladies and gent . I too had a hysterectomy in 2014 but if they leave an ovary or both then the menopause will still happen naturally. I really don’t know where I am in the natural process, I can only tell you how I feel. That is mentally and physically very challenged. I just cannot rationalise anything and my body just does the exact opposite to what my brain says.... that’s when the fog lifts. It’s quite scary when you know something is in there but you just cannot recall it. I’m researching natural remedies but yes I will make a trip to the doctors too. Please keep the experiences coming.

I’m going through the menopause as well, the night sweats and not sleeping we’re driving me mad. I went to my gp and she recommended some sage tablets that didn’t work but I then found black cohosh that worked great for a while but stopped working for me. Now I’m on hrt and much better. I do go through periods of not sleeping but the night sweats have stopped. I’m on antidepressants so that helps with the mood swings. But I still lack motivation at times. All in all I think I’m doing well. But definitely see your gp x

Coming from the other point of view, can I ask if a symptom of the menopause is being an ungrateful, selfish, uncaring, unsympathetic, miserable, moaning bitch from hell? If it is, then I shall cut my wife some slack. If not, then I will consider my future.

I'm having a horrible time and have for about 6 years. Hot flushes so bad i take several complete spare changes of clothes to work, night sweats that soak the bed, lack of sleep, plus all the other things that happen. I asked for HRT but doc wasnt keen.I tried various alternative remedies, none worked and cost a fortune, tried various prescribed drugs, none worked. Doc gave in and gave me HRT. Wonderful, wonderful drug, life changing in fact and i loved it. Now, for some reason, my BP is high despite medication and losing weight so i cant have HRT, life is hell at times !!!

I’m post menopausal too and I’ve not really suffered apart from the sudden increase in temperatures every now and then, I am struggling with my weight, but the bit I’m really unhappy about is I’m worrying about everything, what if I fall downstairs, won’t go out in case I get attacked... memory is like a sieve, I just feel lost..

Not really for me to comment here but had a very tearful emotional dinner with my daughter recently who told me she’s going through the menopause early.

Us guys grow up (or not) casually making jokes / light of the whole thing, even when our partners go through it. This really brought it home to me though. Possibly as she is my Achilles heel?

I had a full hysterectomy at 33 so went into menopause early... on HRT patches and have been since the op- it’s taken a while to get the right dosage/ strength. To balance the side effects - on the higher strength I was ridiculously horny all the time but would have have awful migraines.

Defo suggest talking to GP - there’s help out there x

I never anticipated the huge effect this is having on me and subsequently my family/friends when they visit. I’m delighted to be single right now because I can only affect the cats.... who sit and listen lovingly, give me snuggles then go out and bring a mouse in!! Thank you ladies..... so much. I’ve been out and bought black cohosh/st John’s wort and star flower too. Researching the herbal remedies these seems to be the ones that seem to be preferred with some success. Also diet and regular exercise seems to have some positive results too.... though that’s probably more subjective. Confidence and feel good factors. It’s nice that some men have read this thread and maybe realise that we aren’t just being grumpy and uncooperative, these are very real symptoms which makes us feel very alien in our own bodies. Something which if experienced can be very frightening. To all those that sail through then feel very lucky. Thank you again for taking time out to read and contribute. It’s been lovely knowing I’m not quite as mad as I thought much love xxxx

I’m 14 week’s post-op & just gone back to work after total hysterectomy & BSO. No-one said anything about just how tired I would be, that every bone in my body would ache & that I would cry a lot. I thought I would just be hot, sweaty, shouty & argumentative.

Make sure P rests, rests & rests. Takes the painkillers & lactulose & drinks a ridiculous amount of water xx Huge hugs to her

After reading all the posts to this thread I can’t imagine the uncomfortableness all woman deal with going through this and the hormonal changes it comes with but you get through it and it’s admirable. I was on 3 monthly injections of decapeptyl to artificially put me into menopause

had injections for 3 years. night sweats, 3 stone weight gain, memory loss was severe sometimes I forgot how to drive properly . . gear changes etc

symptoms got so bad I came off injections

took a year to fully come out of my system.

last few months im back to Peri stage and gonna have to go through it all again naturally

I'm peri menopausal and have been struggling. Unfortunately, as I have a pituitary brain tumour, I'm not allowed to take anything to help, not even herbal. My prescription was "a fan". I've been teary, angry, exhausted, not sleeping, fucking hot and thoroughly miserable for the best part of a year. And, I've piled the weight on. It's driving me totally nuts. For me, it's very unpleasant but my bestie has sailed through hers, so not the same for everyone.

When I asked for a smoking hot body, the menopause was definitely not what I had in mind

Being married to a menopausal woman is like being on a long journey. One minute you're being chauffeured in a top of the range limousine, the next you're in a bus crash and it's your fault.

It keeps it interesting.

Just ask them what they normally wear in bed. If they say nothing then proceed with caution.

I added it to my profile :

No menopausal women please. Just my 'preference' no offence meant of course.

Ha, like it.Most menopausal women will find that funny and laugh at it, then they'll stop and cry, then they'll laugh it again and then they'll moan it's too hot.

If they moan while I am in them, is it a good sign ?

I gotta admit that being the other half of not one but two ladies I've known have gone through the menopause it can be hell not only for yourself but also the poor shmuck.... Partner/Hubby who is within earshot and thumping distance of said lady... Uncontrolled mood swings, hot sweats etc. are almost as dangerous to life and limb as D-Day back in WW2.... Please talk to your other halves and seek medical help whether it be some form of drug or alternative therapy... Then it'll calm down and you'll feel in-control again.. plus us blokes can remove our helmets, body armour and stab vests ... Happy days sexy ladies ??

I'm afraid not they'll be moaning due to their dry vagina.

I was going through al the symptoms of peri menopausal so my doctor put me in HRT, low dose to start with but sweats were still bad so ended up on highest dose and it worked for me. Stayed on it for about 3 years. When I stopped everything was fine. Just normal. Still having periods, and doctor just said come back if symptoms return. But no more tears because I forgot to buy milk on the way home and no more sweats and everything else that I was suffering from. Happy bunny x

If life was only so simple eh. I'm on a support site on Facebook which I don't normally read to be honest as it's so depressing, but when I do read the stuff on there I'm so flipping grateful to be single as a lot of the ladies partners/husbands give them no support whatsoever.

I think that it's just not talked about and too often treated as a bit of a joke. How often is the word "menopausal" used in conjunction with "bitch" or "cow" as an insult too? If men and women could talk about it more easily maybe there would be a bit more support for both partners.

I was told 3 years ago that I was Peri menopausal. So I'm guessing I'm in the middle of the menopause now. The hot flushes are unbearable. The sweating is ridiculous. The weight gain is pissing me off big time. I'm working my ass off in the gym but with no results... I'm just getting fatter and fatter!!??????

The only bonus to come out of it.... I've not had a period in a year now.

Well it's not as if men don't have their own issues around middle age now, is it?
