Earlier I paid £5.80p for a pint of Heineken and £5.30p for a pint of Guinness.

How do they justify this!?

There and to the left a bit

Depends where it was - but overheads mostly - it's not just the beer you're paying for but staff costs, business rates, power, and a whole lot more plus they have to make a profit - yeah some places take the piss, hotels tend to be the worst but you pays your money you makes your choice

Easily. People will pay that price. So they continue to sell at that price.

We keep our beer prices low, even as an independently owned business. Real ales at £3.40 a pint, Guinness at £3.50, Lagers slightly more.

I don't know but it's exorbitant!

It's making me to all nostalgic for the days when I used to pay £10 entry to a club and get free drinks all night.

I went to a weatherspoons afterwards and paid 2 quid for a pint. Lol what a difference.

When I was at uni it was 75p for a pint of strongbow

When we had our pub (family business) I was ashamed to ask for £2 for a guiness; it's now £4 locally and about £3.40 for a bitter

I'm not surprised round there - prices in London have always been higher, partly down to business rates partly because they can get away with it.

Wetherspoons have their own business model they work to, partly through bulk buying and the power that brings, and partly due to buying beer close to it's sell by date at a knock down price (at least that always used to be the case).

Wow. I can remember paying one pound a pint in a pub when I was around 17 years old.

The cheapest night I've had out recently was in Blackool last year.. When I had 6 pints and chance out of a tenner.

£1.60p a pint for fosters and strongbow.

There's a decent Wetherspoon's here in the Market Square in Warwick Town Centre. It has to keep its standards up, as it is surrounded by other pubs.

Hiding in the shadows

I have a part time job in a bar, well, it's actually an ex servicemans club.

We had to put our prices up last month in line with the annual brewery tax increase

Our most expensive lager, Stella is now £3.65 Coors is £2.90

Doombar is £3.00

Large bottle of wine £10.00

House spirits, sold as doubles £3.25

We make a profit, a damn good one.

It always amazes me when I drink elsewhere at prices charged

Seen in far off places

Wetherspoons public houses are great for keeping the riff-raff away from the more desirable drinking establishments.

I'd much rather pay twice as much for my tipple of choice and be surrounded by quality decor and good looking folk...

Germany has quite a lot of industry that brings capital into the country though. Neither Denmark or Norway have ever been particularly industrialised so I guess they have to raise revenue on goods sold within the state.

Brewery rents are high as is tax on the beer. Largely you are paying tax on what is mainly water.
