The hotlistee isn't notified of the hotlisting, folk use the feature for various reasons some for the ease of finding the eye candy, others for a not list..

I use it to rate the guys I’ve met and want to meet again. Painfully short my hotlist

Remember there are other ways to approach the site though - it doesn't have to be about sending messages "cold" to people which unless you're exactly what they are looking for are invariably deleted.

The forums and the chat rooms are a great way to not only get to know people, but also to get yourself known - group socials are another way or clubs - it really is about finding the approach that works best for you
