If you start a new thread do you feel an obligation to ‘feed and water it’ by responding more to people’s comments or do you ‘fire and forget’ and it’ll either run or it won’t?

Can depend I suppose on the responses and whether I felt a need to.

Yaas. That way everyone feels involved.

A bit of both, depends on the subject and on how much time I have...

I usually feel like I should respond to everyone. But then I’m taking up most of the space on my own thread.

I’ve done a few where I’ve just posted and not responded to anyone. Feels odd

Additionally if you've got others interacting then I think you've done the good thing by helping others to do so. May not need to water the thread.

.

If it's a thread about inclusion then I want to make it as inclusive as possible so will reply to as many posts as possible.

It depends on the subject matter for me. I rarely start threads anyway.

I think that’s very lovely and noble. But I also think it’s not just the OPs responsibility to involve others.

Agree with the others..

..unless you post it as a troll.

Then you just let the others quarrel or "discuss" amongst themselves and just look from far. I'm sure you have seen this kind of posts before.

So depends on you.

It’s strange but sometimes if the OP is too responsive I feel less inclined to post. Sometimes that can feel a little bit possessive. I think threads sometimes need to be set free into the Wild to fend for themselves.

Sometimes the detours they take are interesting.

I never start threads. Not sure I have anything to say that makes a thread worth starting..

Both, depending on the thread.

If it's one of the person above threads I'll likely start it and won't reply ever again.

As the forum is a participation i don’t think an OP could just fire and forget.

I tend to respond to comments. Sometimes just to bump it to the top of the forum list.

It depends on the subject really. If it's something more in depth where I'm asking about experiences or opinions then I try to respond to everyone but if it's a silly fun thing then I just leave it and pop back every now and then.

I do in my weekend PHWOAAR thread

( thanks for the promotion opportunity OP!)

Surely it’s courteous to manage the thread if you started it. Unless it’s one of those ‘ throw the bait and watch the fight commence’ threads

If people have taken the time to post in my thread I like to acknowledge that I have read them and I respond to each poster according. I believe in interaction with fellow forumites and to be fair PHWOAAR is frequented by a fairly regular set of forum users ( appreciate it folks )

I see the forum like a pub. People standing around chatting.

My threads are usually something I think would be interesting to discuss. So like in a pub, I chuck the question/ idea in and see who wants to talk about it.

I don't reply to every post because it feels odd to me. In a pub I mostly listen, so I read all the posts the same as I would in person.

Not so much fire and forget, more fire and let it burn naturally while you watch and add fuel as nesersary.

I don’t start threads generally but I do prefer people to acknowledge/respond to comments.

I think that only responding to people you fancy or know well and overlooking others isn’t inclusive though.
