Mortar and pestle

hiding from cock pics.

A good fab friend was telling me recently about using a mortar and pestle. I've never in my life owned one but I have just bought one.

Do you use one, what do you make with it?

My first mix is going to be pesto, it seems so easy and apparently fabulous.

Homemade pesto is nice.

I would suggest toasting the pine nuts first. For a variation you can use walnuts!

I find it easier in a blender! You can pick them up cheap enough.

I use mine daily for making a variety of masala, also crushing garlic and salt , chillies into powder

I knock up a fantastic ‘Jamie’ inspired rub for tuna steak. Fennel seed, coriander seeds, black pepper, sea salt. Rub it in with some olive oil - 90 seconds each side, allow to rest with a squirt of lemon - delicious!

I've always wanted to own one, especially for blending together spices. Maybe a good Christmas present if someone is watching this?

Mold

I use it to grind herbs and spices, obviously, when I'm making a marinade or rub

I've clearly been on Fab too long, I keep wondering how a pestle would work as a dildo

I still use the one my aunt gave me when I was 13, and started working in her restaurant.

Have 1 but don't use it much. Usually to just grind salt, pepper and garlic for seasoning steaks

Use mine occasionally

I use the braun hand blender with the mini food processor attachment mostly, covers everything a pestle & mortar can do plus more.

We have an old stone one.

Mason use it to make tomato salsa for nachos. It’s better than chopping the salsa...

your imagination

I do. I grow, dry and use my own herbs and spices. I use a mini blender for pesto though as the fresh basil, oil, etc., is a bit too wet for a mortar and pestle. I also use it to grind nuts and seeds.

The right place

I don’t own one but I make do with the end of the rolling pin and a bowl.

Recently I’ve been grinding mint with caster sugar to sprinkle on fresh pineapple. It’s delicious.

I have a big one (honest) and it makes the best pesto, it seems to bring out the flavour much more than blending. I add the oil late on in the process. Yum, its kinda therapeutic too.

A glass dildo would probably work quite well. As long as you wash it first.

Camberley occasionally doncaster

I have a proper granite one (the ceramic ones just don't do it as they are too smooth.

Love making all kinds of rubs and spice mixes.

Current favourite is to toast some mustard seeds and fennel seeds then grind down with a little sea salt.. makes a great rub for pork steaks

Northampton Somewhere

I got a nice one for Christmas in 2001 and I've only used it about 5 times.

The other day I ground down some garlic and herbs for a chicken thing I made.
