Some traditional stereotypes pushed out by media (as long as I have lived) have been prejudicial or cruel in their actions and this has created victims.
(This was often done in the name of increasing revenue through advertising)
These stereotypes had also tended to be of the static variety and lacking in progressiveness.
So in these times of great movement is it an attractive trait to hold on to opinions from the past?
Is the active oppression by some being held against us all?
Or are there actually a great number of oppressors? Some of the generational variety?

During the earlier part of my life women were often the butt of the joke or put on display in advertising to sell a product.
During more recent times into the present the father figure is often used as the butt of the joke (often among his family) to sell a product.
How much is advertising to blame for setting men and women at each others throats?
There is such a thing as humour, but it can be used in a way to stereotype, hinder progression or take away respect. |

Got it.
I agree. It always seems to be a war of the sexes. I suppose it depends on the humour. They dumb down a lot of adverts which is annoying. Or they do it for the laughs.
I saw an article the other day that said they are banning harmful gender stereotypes in adverts.

I hope it goes for both sexes, the ban. Imagine being in an industry that would encourage gender stereotypes, of a non helpful fashion. Though it would be nice to keep some such as men not giving birth to children! |
