Go back to your gp and ask to be referred for a mental health assessment and to up your AD's. The Mind website has a wealth of information for support. Also, talk to people in real life. You need a good support network around you. All the best x |

First of all you are certainly not on your own I would suggest going bk to your gp and tell them the medication is not working he may up your dosage or change them also have you tried talking to a counselor I hope you feel more like your old self soon big hugs xc |

How long have you been on them For lovely? They can sometimes take a little time to start working. If its been over a month, I would strongly suggest discussing upping the dosage or changing them with the GP. Combination therapy works best. Have you been given a referral for CBT or something similar? If not, I would suggest you go back to your GP to see if you can get a referral for a proper mental health assessement. It can be debilitating and my heart goes out to you. Sending virtual hugs.

Yes, you are not alone. I can't say mine has gone, but I've learned to manage it. Life does get possible.
If the pills you're on aren't working, tell your doctor. You might respond better to a different type.
In my case, the pills did nothing at all. I thought they did to start with, but that was something like a placebo effect - addressing the problem at all helped a little, but not enough.
For me, it was cognitive behaviour therapy that really worked. It took a long time, and was not easy. But when I look back on how I was then and compare it to now, it's two completely different people.
That's not to say it'll be the right treatment for you - depression has different causes and affects us in different ways. But there will be one that does help. Don't give up. Don't think there's no hope. There is. |

You can ask your GP for a referral to the mental health team. You may need more than anti-depressants. (that generally never work and is the only help that a GP can offer)
Try and keep your mind distracted in the mean time, there's nothing worse than feeling trapped within your mind. There's a book called 'The happiness trap' which is based upon (and often used) in CBT and ACT therapies that you may find useful.
Wishing you all the best, I've just gotten out of a 6 month hole myself. |

Recently I had to have my lovely basset hound euthanased and not only do I feel locked in cycles of grief but also I keep being overwhelmed with guilt for not doing more and for his short life being cut even shorter than expected.
Sometimes it consumes everything and if I forget for a while when my mind is occupied with something else, the added guilt I feel for not grieving in that moment is like an extra punch in the cut.
Does anyone have a basset hound going spare? I need a hug |

Had a patterned in this state, in the end although it was hard she found it better off to stop taking all medicine to feel more positive, but let’s make one thing clear, everyone’s different! Everyone has a different case and different circumstances |

I swear, with time, help, support and a little self searching, it really can get easier and better. I hope you can take heart in that. Sometimes we need to hit bottom, in order to reach out, to be able to find the tools to pick ourselves back up again. You are already beginning to take those steps to a happier you. I really hope that gives you comfort during this dark time lovely

The thing with meds is they're only a bandaid, if you're ever to truly get out from under depression then you need to deal with the route cause. I'm not saying you shouldn't take the meds I'm saying get extra help and please try talk to your nearest and dearest, they should know you're struggling so they can help you through the dark days. Good luck and I hope you soon see the light at the end of the tunnel |

OP.... Sadly its not an easy battle and that's what I call it because I had to fight to make my way out of the black hole... It took a long long time for me but you can make it.... Which having someone tell you that sounds so ridiculous especially if you have that isolated bubble feeling...?? And never be afraid to ask for help.
All I can say is in the blackest of moments don't think about tomorrow or even a few hours time just concentrate on getting through the next few minutes.. Just breath and then get through the next few minute after that.
Sending big hugs to you... Xxx |

I'm not quite a full year coming off antidepressants and I'm still having difficult days but I have a great family and a few good friends that understand me and what I feel. Those difficult days are getting less and less over time but it's still hard work, just take it 1 think at a time, and get outdoors no matter what the weather, it's truly been uplifting for me hearing the world going on around me, especially nature, birdsong. |

Go back and speak to your doctor, if what you’re on isn’t working for you, there are other meds that could work.
You aren’t alone, there are so many support groups you can reach out to, or a therapist. I’ve suffered with depression over the last few months, and talking to people does help. I hate burdening my friends and family with my issues, mostly because I find it very difficult to voice them to them. However, for whatever reason sometimes speaking to a complete stranger is incredibly helpful.
I also find it helpful to stick to a routine, I walk between 3 and 5 miles each day, even if I don’t do anything else with my day, doing this and sticking to it makes me feel somewhat in control. |

Getting depressed usually mean you are stuck in old habits, or lost not discovering new things or getting inspired. Or something tragic happened which you have not fullest experienced.
5-HTP | CoQ10 | More Sleep | Fish Oil | Zinc maybe
I would try to avoid anti-depressant, only as a last resort. |

I've tried many types of medications and none really worked for me. Some did for a short period. In the long run my doctor helped me come off the medication. I received counselling and found this help a lot a long with getting out more. |

How do you tell your employer that your suffering with mental health, if you're not on any form of medication, and haven't been down enough to see your GP? If you had a cold you could take time off with it. If your lower back was painful no one would bat an eyelid if you phoned your boss and said you were going to take a couple of days to rest it. But how do you tell your boss that although you've not proper lost it, you are definitely coming towards the end of your tether.... |

You just do it. It doesn't need to be a detailed explanation, just a quick 'I have a lot of stressful things going on and my mental health is suffering. I need a few days off.' |

It is a tough one indeed, I would suggest going to the doctors and getting signed off, give yourself a break. Seek out help, there is so much out there.
I didn’t and completely ended up losing the plot in the office one day. I was lucky had understanding bosses and gave me the time and space I needed, although I only took a couple of days off as I felt better being occupied and busy at work than stewing at home. |

I feel your pain. I know what depression is like. Different antidepressants work for different people. If your current one is not working for you ask to try a different one.
EFT is good for depression. EFT = Emotional Freedom Technique. You can learn the basics in minutes and it costs nothing to do.

I work in mental health and also have depression and anxiety. Mine started aged 14.
Please, please, please, don't do anything stupid.
I was very stupid. I kept my depression hidden until was aged 36. On another suicide attempt, I finally admitted to myself I had mental health problems. I finally realised I needed help. I sought help and it was the best thing I ever did.
There is lots of help available out there. To get the best help make sure to tell your doctor and counsellor everything. Don't hold back. Tell them how you feel, what your thoughts are, if you ever make suicide plans, if you have ever tried suicide, how the depression affects your daily life, etc.
Sadly suicide is a massive problem. The biggest killer of men in the UK under 50 each year is suicide. 3 out 4 suicides in the UK are male. I have to be honest and say I am very lucky but glad to be still be alive.
That is why we have to start talking about mental health. We can't keep it a dirty subject you don't talk about.
I really hope you get the right help you need.
Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. |

2) You are doing the right thing and seeking help.

Been on antidepressants for 20 years. It's good you realise something is not right.
Take help where you can..i also find exercise helps as it creates natural endorphins. I would never believed this..but it definitely makes a difference. I have to force myself to go (gym, zumba, whatever) but feel so much better after.

For me distraction techniques help a lot. When you get lost in the moment it stops the thoughts.
Lots of things can be a distraction technique such as
Reading a book
Watching TV
Listening to a CD
Meditating
Doing adult colouring in books. I don't mean colouring in sexy pictures lol.
Playing a computer game
Mindfulness
Etc
To stop the dark thoughts when I am trying to get to sleep of a night I listen to the radio.

Crying is good for you.
Whether you believe in the God theory or the evolution theory everything on our body has purpose. Eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, legs for walking, heart to pump blood, etc.
We were given the ability to cry for a reason. If I need a good cry I will have one. |

Don't listen to the idiots who say daft things like
We all get depressed sometimes. People who say that haven't got a clue what real depression is like.
People with depression need to pull their socks up. Yeah right you idiot.

I was in the exact same situation 3 years ago, in the hands of bullying bosses and colleagues at work.
I was fortunate to have a superb GP and team who supported me. I did walk out of my job, with nothing else to go to, plus a mortgage to pay etc, but I had to do it.
But work came along within a few days, with a company who got me some help via their Welfare programme for staff. It also helped for me to be encouraged to talk about what I went through, which was so important in the long run, though it did not feel right at the time!
There are support services out there, whether through the NHS or Charity organisations. But try to trust your GP as they can often be the best referral point going.
One other crucial point; I too voiced my situation on here, and the support from fellow Fabbers was overwhelming.
Good Luck.

Good luck op.
I Harold had to stop taking meds as the side effects made me feel worse. I still see my gp regularly and have a very close circle of friends I can trust who help me.
Things are getting better and I feel I'm in a better place.
